Xbox 360 Fails 67% of the Time
Egad! Now that I’m in the market for a new console, things are looking bad for my first choice - the Xbox 360. According to this poll by Cheap Ass Gamer, some people have reported that their Xbox 360 fails 67% of the time. And some have even reported not single, but repeated failures.
I can vouch for this, from the third person point of view though. A couple of my friends and officemates have indeed reported failures of their own Xbox 360s. Most notable causes are from the heat.

Here’s the result of the poll

Based on conversations and a little research, I came to the following notes
- The design is flawed. There isn’t enough air space inside the console hence the heat-induced failures. They call this the ‘3RL’ or three-red-lights syndrome.
- Xbox 360s are not designed for tropical climates. Buying one here, think twice.
- There are a lot of people who take off the casing and put extra fans just to cool the console. Also, some gamers have modded their consoles and placed it on either PC casings or specially designed cases.
- This may just be a ploy by Micro$oft to design yet another console to replace the 360 soon. More money! Sigh.
Oh well… I’ll just wait.
Patience is a virtue.

while I’d personally go for a PS3, your choice of consoles still depends largely on what you want to play on it GM T.
If you’re a Halo fan-atic who enjoys online fragfest then you’d get a 360, no questions asked. If you want more of the popular mainstream games like the ones the first guy posted then it’s definitely a PS3.
For functionality’s sake thought I’d definitely go with a PS3. Why? It supports (the latest firmware) Divx playback. It’s also a good combo if you have a PSP because some interoperability like controlling movie playback on the PS3 from your PSP, downloading from the PS3 to your PSP etc.
IMO though, choosing your platform over the pros and cons over the other is a way of limiting you from enjoying it to the fullest. Go for a platform that has what you like regardless of flaws and enjoy it while you can.
On a side note, I’ve had 3 PS2 units. The first 2 died from over use (hehe) and if this one dies I may get another one unless PS2 on PS3 becomes flawless.
Enjoy ^^.. haba a, amf…. I think I can make a blog post out of this haha.

I will consider them or just get a kick-ass PC capable of playing Crysis. No rush as of the moment. I may buy a console before the year ends. Who knows? I might win the lottery and just buy all of ‘em!

all I can say is that the Xbox 360 is from Microsoft. Ha ha!
Yeah! Maybe they have plans of redesigning it to make more money. Oh well, it could be an engineering coup.
