Again, this controversy is all the buzz even in the office. My brand managers have been showing me videos and updates regarding the issue. The waukster also blogged about this. Hmmm… time to join the bandwagon and put in my own two cents.

Background: In a nutshell, the issue started when ABS-CBN 2 Wowowee host Willie Revillame had a blooper when he revealed the wrong box containing the supposed “chu-million” (two million) jackpot prize. Now, this really appeared as rigging or cheating. Host Joey De Leon of the competing channel, GMA 7 – Eat Bulaga started to lambast Willie on the incident. The fiasco then erupts – enough for the entire nation to forget more important issues and news. Sigh.

This  is really sad. I mean, I’m not against game shows. But when you’re playing with the hopes of the poor and then cheating them, that’s simply beyond “low”. That’s why I think that these game shows have to stop. We’re sending a wrong message to the poor that they can just count on LUCK to uplift their lives.

True help should be showing them how to help themselves, giving good education to the masses, and giving them valid means to make money. Then, and only then, do you turn the LUCK factor more for their favor. It’s “gimmicks” like these gameshows that make the poor more complacent and just try their luck for a better life.

That shouldn’t be the case.
