What’s Your Typical Weekly Blog Routine?

I’d like to know what your typical weekly blog routine is. I’ll share to you mine to start the comments and discussions.

Basically, I try to write all the articles for the coming week on either a Friday night or Saturday. I just “pre-post” them. It’s a feature at WordPress where you can schedule posts to appear whenever you want to (date and time specific).

Meanwhile, to get inspiration for what articles to write, there are certain things that are already routine for me such as taking notes during our work meetings on which promos or announcements to feature at the blog. A lot of people at the game forums as me and Waukster why we post at our blogs instead of there. Well, to tell you the truth, there are people who are tasked to post announcements there. Due to some approvals and processes, our announcements are usually a few hours or a day early. That does not necessarily mean that we are prioritizing our blog(s). It just means that we want to spread the word and get it to as many people as possible. The blog is an extension of the game sites and the forums… anyways, I digress.

More about routines after the break…

Here are certain “habits” or routines that I do with respect to my blogging

  • Open Google Analytics, Alexa and Technorati to analyze my site’s trends, link sharing and growth. It’s good to see where the hits are coming and what content they’re digesting. That way, I get to concentrate on which topics are high in demand.
  • Check on the blog’s adsense revenue regularly. I try to see which revenue streams or channels are high in traffic so I can tweak it later.
  • Do some reading and research on similar blogs – this way, I get to see what the others are covering. If there’s a topic which has high comments and activity, I make a mental note on which category, topic or issue it is. I could write a similar “pick-up” or supplementary story on it in the near future.
  • Digg – Digg’s section on gaming may strike some good ideas or a feature or two.
  • Check my mail – sometimes there are questions, submissions which can become blog material. I did this several times with what seemed to be forwarded spam mail. Remember the Filipino Excuse Letters? Also, some gamers may have submitted answers for Gamer Babe and Gamer Profile.
  • Youtube – video surfing is always fun and great way to relax and spend time. Sometimes, something funny or relevant to the industry/gaming will be blog material.
  • Actual writing – I try to write from 1 to 3 posts a day. It can get to 4 if it’s a series of short posts. I schedule the writing on weekends, like what I said earlier.

It’s actually all about discipline and creating a passion for what you do. Time management plays a big part. Before I go to office on Monday, all the blog’s content for the week is already lined up.

There are always something “bloggable” if you view each experience as something to share to your readers. And yes, having your camera handy or just your mobile phone camera with you to capture those moments is a plus.

How about you? What’s your typical blog weekly routine?

    1. Check out my blog stats (on Sitemeter)
    2. Check out other people’s blogs through my Blogroll and access my favorite links
    3. Read some MSN articles (usually Tech & Gadgets, Entertainment, and MSNBC News)

I don’t check my mails since Microsoft Outlook automatically sends/receives every 1 minute.

    P.S.
Blogspot doesn’t have a “pre-post” feature, am I correct? How unfortunate.

I have just started blogging 4 days ago so I really can’t say what my actual typical weekly blog routine is. One thing’s for sure though, I won’t be able to prepare entries in advance like you do since my blog is like a log book of daily events… unless I can predict the future which would be very cool =)

Google Analytics and all those stuff… I’ve not yet delved into those things. But once I do, I guess I’ll try mimicking your typical weekly blog routine =)

I can’t really say that I have a blog routine, I just write what comes into my mind. My blog is more editorial or artistic (the fan-fic sections) in nature. Some days I have more inspiration than others.

I usually take down notes of bloggable topics on my organizer, so when it’s blog time already, I already have a list to write about in handy. I also check my blog for comments and feedbacks from readers. Then I bloghop. Afterwards, I decide what would be the best topic to write about. I haven’t done that pre-post thingie of WordPress yet, but I’ll definitely use it now. :)
