Time Management in MMORPGs

August 22, 2007 · Filed Under General, Musings, Online, Gaming

Let’s admit it first, some MMORPGs do have the “grind” element in them.

In order to become competitive and be on the top of your game, you have to dedicate a huge amount of time to playing.

Some games have EXP items and some often offer EXP and/or drop boosts as an event - which is always welcomed by players.

Here are 5 tips on how you can manage your time better in your online game playing

Tips after one more click…

MMORPG TIME MANAGEMENT

1. Consistency - dedicate a regular amount of time each day to your playing. Of course, don’t forget to finish up on studies or work. Sometimes, you also have to devote time to your “significant other”. If you don’t do this, fights will erupt (not unless your girlfriend or wife plays too). Give yourself a schedule and stick to it.

2. Optimize - don’t just log onto the game and slay monsters at random. Prepare in advance, know which maps, monsters and quests will give you the most exp for the least amount of time. It’s not rocket science. If you don’t know where, just ask your friends or guildmates. Information is important and I’ve written a past article on how to get that information.

3. Party - most online games are not designed for solo mode. Often playing in a party speeds up the exp. Besides, time flies if you’re having fun and chatting with friends is one of them.

4. Prepare in advance - Just heard of an EXP event announcement? Well, don’t just stand there. Do something. Send a message to your guild or friends and prep up on top-up cards or reserve your slot in your favorite Internet Cafe. If you’re playing at home and sharing the PC with younger siblings, be sure to warn them in advance and do “compromises” so you get your share on the PC.

5. Share - if you want to dedicate more time to your character you either do two things, ignore sleep alltogether or clone yourself. If you can’t do that, you can share the account with a trusted friend or relative. Remember, TRUST is important. Greed can lead to theft.

Always remember that “balance” is important. I’m pertaining to a harmonious balance between gaming and your real life. Don’t neglect your studies, work, responsibilities and family.

The more you put balance in your gaming and in your life, the more you’ll appreciate and reap the rewards of your toiling.

Hi again GM T! OT again but this is the last time I promise! Were you guys able to find and reproduce the exploit? Were all the votes verified? We just want your final and official answer to the Wild Card nomination voting exploit so we can all move on heh! Although it’s not impossible for someone to go from 400+ votes to 4k+ votes in an hour we’d still like confirmation from you that all the votes were legit. Thanks again GM T!

Sadly, most players define “time management in MMORPGs” in one word… BOT!

i’m not big on grinding but here are my MMORPG philosophies:

above all, … do your quests! most MMORPGs (usually) implore players to do quests by giving more xp than straight grinding

if you have to grind, don’t just grind–grind smart. look not only for xp per kill, but also take into account:
1 how easy it is to kill a mob
2 spawn rate and spacing of the mobs
3 the spells that you use…do they make you sit everytime? are you overspending mana? maybe put a level 1 firebolt for the finishing move.
4 consumables time is more important than money, so if you have money to spare, spend it to save time.
5 time of the day: you do not want to grind at a time where everybody else is grinding.
6 get a pet looter! time spent clicking loot is time wasted

7 don’t sleep or get an alt pilot, (did someone say “bot”?) …. kidding lol. the joy of a game is in playing it… why get rid of that joy?

the idea is not to spend buttloads of hours but to spend them efficiently.

No updates regarding my concern GM T? BTW your voting page is borked again. People are not getting voting points after topping up. Losing hope…

I’ve always said that for as long as you play with some degree of regularity, wealth and power become inevitable in an MMORPG. Even if it’s just an hour a day.

It all adds up in the end.

    No need to rush.
