The Week That Was IV

Heya kids!

Time for another “Week That Was”…

Anyways, it really is a sad, sad week for all us folks here in LUG as we say goodbye to one of our favorite games – ROSE Online. Don’t get me wrong… this wasn’t a decision that happened overnight. A lot of work and thought was considered before coming to final decision of letting a good game such as pROSE go.

There’s nothing wrong with the game. But being idle for almost a year and a half without any new content is really hard. Triggersoft, Gravity’s development arm for pROSE was having some issues – I guess in terms of manpower. Anyways, our official statement summarizes all our thoughts and explains why we had to pull the plug on pROSE.

Last Monday and Tuesday was back to the drawing boards for me and my team. We had a lot of tech problems that we had to hurdle. All is common when launching new content for the games. RF will have its Episode 2 very soon and the GPS team is busy at work testing the features and the new RF Item Mall at the test servers. In the meantime, Episode 15 of pRO, Rachel is now up in Sakray and you guys can go check it out and see if the new Item Slotting system is cool!

And that’s not all, FlyFF is cramming design work into its new posters for Version 8 – tentatively titled “Heroes’ Rising”. V8 brings some improvements in the game system and the Dragon Coliseum gets a boost as well.

While the other games are busy preparing for their new stuff, team pROSE is preparing the exit plan – with the moonies remibursement and loyalty program being finalized by monday and approved at the highest levels.

Meanwhile, Thursday was another busy day as I personally did a seminar-training for all the Brand Managers and Community Managers on the basics of Marketing with case studies on how to do make programs without spending – sounds like an oxymoron, but it IS possible.

Today, we had a complete status meeting for the LIVE tournaments and the guys promised to have new content up soon for the LIVE 2007 site.

What another busy week!!! Whew… another weekend worthy of rest and relaxation…

Seeya all!

I guess in many ways, pROSE is a good example of graphics or technical achievement not being able to carry a game by itself. Without new content, a game becomes stale quickly. Very few players can enjoy an truly open-ended game.

Then again, the current generation seems to have the attention span of a fly. /swt

    n-o-t-h-i-n-g wrong teh game?
this has to be the meanest understatement for the month of july..

Allow me to help you understand. “nothing wrong” meant that the premise and basics of game design were good. It’s just that there was NO new release of content which meant NO support from the developers. Of course, there is no perfect game – one without ANY defect. The word was not to be taken in that context. But I guess you know that already, right?

@ frustration: To fix a bug in a game requires a lot more effort than just changing a few lines of code. Level Up is a game publisher, not a game developer. If anything, LU! was generous enough to keep the game going even after Gravity stopped supporting it.

@ GM T: Sometimes, the players do not deserve the game anyway. If some players just exploited the bugs in the game to make game life hell for the other players, then these players got what they deserved. The non-cheating players can always move on to better and more secure games while those cheaters will remain lamers until they learn to “play nice”. Goenitz has a word for those kinds of players.
