This year’s motiff for LIVE 2008 is an Olympic feel. And yes, the BIGGEST online gaming event just got better. I’d like to thank everyone who worked really hard to put together the site. Project Manager Alex Mena, of course (ever dependable), Sansan, Daqs and everyone at creatives. The individual Head Judges per game (the Community Managers), the game Brand Managers, ICT and Webdev, GPS, New Media, Events and everyone who pitched in. Thanks so much for a fantastic job!

LIVE 2008 Teaser Site Unveiled

A couple of days ago, we unvieled the official teaser page of LIVE 2008. We’ve managed to embed a playlist with new videos culled from the GM T/Level Up Youtube Channel. Thanks to the efforts of our Creative team, Project Manager Alex M and webdev! Sweet!

This marks the beggining of yet another great tournament season for LIVE. I am still the overall tournament director and, together with the team, am very excited about the line up of tourneys and events for LIVE 2008.

Level Up! has always been, and always will be, about online games, tournaments, and you, the gamer!

I’m currently heading early preparations for LIVE 2008. And yes, the Philippines’ BIGGEST and BEST online gaming event will be even bigger (and badder) this year.

Currently, the various head judges for the 5 tournaments for Ragnarok, Perfect World, RF Online, FlyFF and Freestyle are finalizing the new tournament rules and mechanics. We’re also busy laying out the foundations for the theme of this year’s Live. I can’t share it with you right now but I promise that you’ll hear it from me very soon.

Preparing for LIVE 2008

It’s another year, and again, it’s time to prepare (this early) for another massive online gaming event – Level Up LIVE 2008.

We all know that last year’s event is the biggest so far, and this is not a “claim”, it’s a fact. Thanks to all you loyal LU gamers for making it a huge success.

As early as December of last year, the brand managers, the community managers and I have been preparing for our biggest event for 2008. And yes, Virginia, we plan to outdo ourselves again this year. Time to put on both my Project Manager and Tournament Director caps and see to it that all “lessons learned” last year are noted so that we can provide for solutions this year.

After the break, I’ll share with you some initial ideas that were tossed around…

Level Up Live Filmfest: Real Life Online

It’s only a few days to Level Up LIVE 2007. 8 Days to be exact. I think I’m going to enjoy this long weekend and “recharge” my internal batteries to prepare for 3 days of no-sleep and “Red Bull” spamming when I go off with the team for the ingress.

Anyways, the deadline for entries for the Level Up Filmfest are now over. Last year we got 5 entries, this year we got 10.

And the lucky winner will go home with P20,000 in cash.

Video: Countdown To War

Here’s another entry for our Level Up LIVE 2007 Filmfest.

This is the second entry and so far both have been for RF online. The first one featured dancing accretians which I already posted a couple of days back.

Meanwhile, this one, I think, is entirely rendered by the participant. It shows an accretian going through the motions of choosing an armor set. Methinks he knows not to get hack – look at his password hehehe. Again, another impressive piece of work.

RPC 2007: Boza and Armada Will Go To LIVE

Whew!

It was a tense weekend as the Top 8 went head-to-head to determine the final two teams that will go to the Grand Finals of Level Up LIVE 2007. Before I go into the details, a lot of people have been asking me why didn’t we include all the top 8 in LIVE. First, there’s the factor of time. We can’t have a round-robin or even a ladder-match for 8 teams in the grand event becuase there are other games – a total of 7 tournaments. Second, there’s the matter of logisitics, there’s too much involved in managing and handling all those players, together with all the other games. To be frank, I have a budget for this and me and the team can’t afford to go overboard. The event does not cost peanuts, if I should say so myself.

At any rate, I had to rush at the office last night (Saturday) at around 10:30pm to personally oversee a controversial ruling in the match between Sustainer of the Realm and Armada.

RPC 2007 Final 8

After several months of Agit Sieges and Wild Card voting, only 8 teams remain in RPC 2007, still the country’s biggest MMORPG tournament.

Here, the 6 server champions will compete with the RWC Team Philippines and the Ultimate Wildcard until only 2 teams remain.

These two teams will then compete at the World Trade Center on November 3 and 4 at the Grand Finals of LIVE 2007 along with the other finalists of the other games’ tournaments.

I already blogged about the basics of the Quarterfinals and now, let me share with you some notes on what will happen as the top 8 compete today, October 13, 2007. Their characters will be ported or “copied” to Sakray, the test server where the matches will be held.

RPC 2007: Freya Server Series Ruling

If you’ve been monitoring developments in RPC 2007, you may have already heard of our official ruling regarding Wargods and Telios.

You can find the official statement at the Ragnarok site.

But basically, the decision was for them to have a 1 game rematch to determine who will take on Asher guild to determine who will be the Freya server champion.

The so-called bug was any skill which replicates the “Magnifier (Identify)” ability will cause the character to be either unclickable or to be in several places at the same time.

The entire technical explanation about this bug eludes me. But I was actually there when Wargods went to the office to file their protest.
