Will Facebook Be A Mirror of the 2010 Elections?

If the May 2010 presidential elections were fought over with Facebook fans, Noynoy Aquino would come out on top. Noynoy leads the Facebook “fan page” war with around 516,000 fans and growing. Manny Villar comes a close second with a 480,000 fan base.

Of course, users of Facebook are not the only voters in the country. They comprise just a small fraction of the “masa”, those who would rather find a meal than share what they’re eating online. Perhaps Erap’s magic will work on non-facebook/Internet users as he has only 5,700 fans, 5th overall behind Gibo and Gordon.

pGMA Now Looking To Buy Private Jet?

After the $20,000 dinner at Le Cirque by the president and her entourage, I recently found out that Malacanang is shopping around for a private jet worth at least P1.2 Billion!

OMGWTF!?! Have we gone to the dogs? Imagine how many projects for the poor or better things to do with that money. And to think that the president only has a few more months left in her term. This is unthinkable.

Interested suppliers are required to place a non-refundable P100,000 bond. Details after the break…

Obama Ad in Burnout Paradise

The US presidential elections are just a few days away. Next week, the US will have a new president and a big chance that they will see their first afro-american president too.

Targeting gamers, Obama’s crew placed a campaign ad in Burnout Paradise. Check out the photo above. Well… I hope the Americans vote wisely. Best of luck to Obama and his opponent, McCain. May the best dude win!

Say No to Vat on Oil

Name someone who’s happy about the rising cost of fuel? Well, even the gas company execs won’t make the cut in that list. One of the reasons for the high cost of fuel is that stupid law called VAT. Personally, I think VAT is just an excuse for some politicians to make money for their own pockets.

Good thing Senator Mar Roxas has spearheaded the fight to kill the 12% VAT on oil/fuel. And he’s taken the battle to the web with http://virtualrally.net

How Rich Are Our Philippine Senators?

Time out!

Here’s a break from our regular game programming.

Alright, you voted for them. They won. Now, do you want to know how rich our currently-elected senators are?

Inquirer recently published an article saying that Senator Manny Villar leads the pack with a net worth of over 1 billion pesos (USD 23.8M) while Sen. Trillanes is the “poorest” with a net worth of just P2.6 million.

This is based on the senators’ recently declared statement of assets and liabilities (SAL) for 2007. The SAL is a yearly requirement for our officials and is for public consumption.

Erap Estrada Granted Pardon by GMA

Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo has granted full executive pardon to ex-president Joseph “Erap” Estrada yesterday. Erap, as we all know, has been recently convicted of plunder just six weeks before. According to spokesperson Ignacio Bunye, GMA has exercised her executive powers to grant full clemency and that Malacanang has also a policy to grant pardon to prisoners “over 70 years of age”. The ex-president is exactly 70 years old.

DILG Secretary Ronaldo Puno was tasked to serve the pardon and went to Tanay, Rizal to give Erap the good news. As of this writing, Erap has already come back to San Juan, his home city (where I also live).

It was really horrendous traffic here kanina as thousands gathered in front of the municipal hall where Erap gave a short speech around 8pm. The entire N.Domingo street was blocked to traffic all the way to the SM Centerpoint bridge.

Too bad, I was not able to get photos since I waited it out at the office, having to file a million forms and do final checks for the player kits for LIVE 2007.

Anyways, check out the video below if you missed it on TV.

The Politics of MMORPGs

Online games and MMORPGs are here to stay. That’s a fact.

Like any world, be it virtual or real, there’s politics. And in an online game, this is specially true.

Here in this country, politics is governed by the rich and powerful. These kinds of “trapos” or traditional politicians rule with guns, goons and gold. They have so many promises, they kiss babies, visit the wakes of the recently dead and even contribute to drinking sprees in the “kantos” (sidestreets) especially during or near an election period.

How come they’re “everywhere” whenever they need something from the masses?

Is the same true in an online game? Click below to find out…
