All In Strategies For Poker

You’ve heard the famous phrase before; “I’m All In”.

More often than not, this can be a very powerful strategy in poker if used well. A lot of beginners fall into the trap of not being able to maximize the potential of this uber-raise. Going for broke with your chips isn’t to be taken lightly. Here are a few tips on how to use it to your advantage and make the most of the situation.

This is a continuation of my noob series of tutorials.

The Basics of Position in Poker

Continuing my “amateur series” of poker tips, it’s time now to talk about position in poker and how that equates to developing a strategy that will enable you to win more pots and lose less.

Again, I’m no pro. But these basics were gleaned by personal experience, a lot of research and simple logic (and of course, a lot of trials, testings and practice).

Let’s start, shall we?

Improving Your Poker Skills Online

A couple of days ago, I posted about the Basics of Competitive texas holdem Poker. In that article, I enumerated some of the lessons that amateurs need to remember to win more pots, more games and basically, take their game to the next level.

For me, the best teacher is experience. The more times you play, the more times you get to apply the theories you’ve read (or watched) in real games means that you’re moving towards better poker skills and an overall improvement in your game. Playing with friends or going to poker rooms is a good option. But if you don’t have time (or can’t find a poker club in your area), your next best bet to improve your texas holdem poker skills is by going online. The French call it poker en ligne

The Basics of Competitive Poker

Around 4 years ago, I picked up the game (Texas Hold ‘em) and have been hooked since. And yup, poker’s real hot here in the country. You see it in TV and everyone wants to emulate their pro idols. I’m not an expert or a pro. But after picking up some basics online and practicing with my buddies during home games, I’m getting there.

When I have the time, I also visit poker houses in the metro and practice online poker. My biggest achievement was having to play with real pros last year in the $1M APPT here in Manila. I didn’t cash, but it was one helluva experience.

Meanwhile, here are a few tips that I’d like to share if you’d like to become better at poker.

Gaming vs. “Gaming”

We all know that I run a gaming website and I’m directly involved in the gaming industry. But when I meet strangers and tell them that I’m from the gaming industry, they go “oh gambling? like an online casino?”. Even search engines sometimes get confused with the similar, yet very, very different terms.

In spite of that, one can still make out certain patterns between video gaming and ‘gaming’. Here’s an attempt to correlate both.

  • Always go with something safe – don’t be fooled by sites or even individuals promising huge payoffs or rewards. The old adage is worth remembering; “If it’s too good to be true, it must be a hoax”. Always work with trusted companies, services or websites. They have to be verified, audited and safe. For video games, trust only big-name companies. For the other “gaming” side, there are outfits like pro360.com. They’ve been reviewing online casinos since 1997.

Pinoy Poker Showdown at Pokerstars.Net

I really love poker.

In fact, I’ve started to really improve my game by doing a lot of reading, research and of course, playing. I play poker whenever I can with my officemates (like Wauks, who needs to know more about heads-up).

But nothing beats constant practice. The best way to improve your game is by playing online. That’s why pokerstars.net is my recommended site. Not only do you get to have all the features of “pro-play”, pokerstars.net also has exclusive tournaments for all types of play levels. They even have “Filipino-only” exclusive tournaments.
