Rocksteady Games and Eidos have just announced the development of Batman Arkham Asylum for the PC. The game, which will also be released for the PS3 and the Xbox has a tentative 2009 launch date.

The initial screenshots for Arkham Asylum look promising. Note that the Joker has the Heath Ledger “look”. Meanhwile, the game runs on the Unreal Engine 3. 1Up has reported that it is played “from a third-person, over-the-shoulder view, with emphasis both on combat and detective work.”

Crysis is Most Pirated Game

We all know that Crysis topped a lot of charts. In fact, it can crush your PC rig to its limits just by the sheer video and hardware requirements of the game.

Now, execs over at Crytek said that Crysis is THE most pirated game.

“We are suffering currently from the huge piracy that is encompassing Crysis. We seem to lead the charts in piracy by a large margin, a chart leading that is not desirable.” said Crytek president Cevat Yerli.

The Sims 3 Sneak Peek

In an old post, I hinted that EA will announce something about their new game, The Sims 3.

Now, the official Sims 3 website is out and the screens and the announced game features look promising. Taking advantage of graphics and “sims” tech, this game promises more fun and more control over your favorite sims.

Some of the new improvements include unique personalities for your Sims where you can “Select from dozens of personality traits and combine them in fun ways. The combination of traits you choose – brave, artistic, loner, perfectionist, klepto, romantic, clumsy, paranoid, and much, much more – help shape the behavior of your Sims and how they interact with other Sims.”

Is It All About the Graphics?

Lately, I’ve been musing over how huge the hardware requirements for video games are. Want to play a game such as Crysis? Then you’ve got to bleed cash for you to enjoy it. How about HD gaming? Surely, you need a high-end console such as the Xbox 360 and the PS3. But some consoles have design problems and are likely to fail. Which means that your investment is not guaranteed for the long haul.

The question then is: is it now all about the graphics? It is such a high priority among developers and end users? Are graphics the end all or be-all of games? Whatever happened to gameplay innovations such as the games of the good-old-days: Zelda, Mario, etc.

And then, whatever happened to good storytelling and gameplay? Is it now second-rate to graphics?

Assasin’s Creed is Best Action Adventure Game 2007

Assassin’s Creed, developed by French gamemaker UbiSoft came out as the Best Action Adventure game for 2007. This honor was bestowed by the prestigious game site, GameSpot.

But it faced off tough competition. Can you say God of War 2, Resident Evil 4, Tomb Raider Anniversary, and Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass? Whew! But the people’s votes and the editors choice were the same. Assassin’s Creed came out on top.

The game takes place in 1191 AD. You play an elite Assassin sent to stop the hostilities by suppressing the powers on both the Crusader and Saracen sides. But as you carry out your missions, a conspiracy begins to unfold. You find yourself tangled up in a conflict that threatens not only the Holy Land, but the entire world.

Graphics video power has grown so fast that many of us can’t keep up with the need for better (and more expensive) video cards. Here’s another reason to save up for Christmas and upgrade your gaming rig – Crysis by EA and developed by Crytek, makers of the uber-cool CryEngine 2 graphics engine used for the game.

Featuring jaw-dropping visuals, industry leading technology and open-ended gameplay, Crysis is set to break new ground in the FPS genre and has already received a 98% from PC Gamer, the highest score ever awarded in the magazine’s 14-year history.

Crysis is the culmination of the dedication and tenacity of everyone here at Crytek who shared the goal of creating a true next-generation FPS,” said Cevat Yerli, CEO and President of Crytek. “Our vision from the beginning was to deliver an immersive, open-ended single-player campaign, to innovative in multiplayer and to give our community a powerful, easy-to-use editor and we’re extremely proud of the end result.”
