Last Friday, Oct 31, we had a Halloween party at the conference room. We also greeted all our October birthday celebrants. The bash, organized by our HR department, had a cosplay contest and a video making contest wherein all departments had to submit a short, 2-minute creepy video.

Suffice it to say that our dept, Marketing, won the video contest. Yay! Gratz and thanks to everyone who contributed and helped in the video. Special mention goes to Neil of Creatives for the superb editing. You the man, dude! Meanwhile, Chris D. of Product Dev won the cosplay contest dressed as Sadako of The Ring.

Meanwhile, check out some of the photos after the break…

Props to all Level Up employees who participated in the cosplay, the video-making contest (damn… there were a lot of creepy entries) and for making the Halloween party a success.

Happy Halloween to everyone!

Last Saturday, I was with the Waukster at Milton Sy’s (leader of the Bozanian pRO guild) birthday party held at Dencio’s in Greenhills. Let me first greet the guy another “Happy Birthday!” and thanks for a swell and cool party.

It was so fun that Ragnarok players were in their jockeys. Why? I’m sure Waukeen already posted the pics. I’ll try to grab what I can and post it here too. Hehehe!

The snapshot below is from a party we threw for Bacolod RO players when I was there last year.

Anyways, this prompted or inspired me to create a How-to guide on organizing your own EB party for your guild. That, after one more click…

GM Tristan’s Tips on How to Throw a Guild EB Party

Plan ahead - try to figure out the 3Ws (What, Where and When). It’s advisable to plan your party at least a month ahead. Form a working committee composed of dedicated members of the guild.

Communicate this – once agreed, try to post this at your guild boards or site. Also, inform key leaders about developments. This way, you don’t have to talk to each member, the leaders will cascade the information going down.

Actual logistics - Now here comes the real work, you have to book the venue, figure out the menu, count the approximate attendees. Is there beer? Liquor? (btw, DO NOT server to minors ha) When planning, always write everything down. In working with a budget, you may share the cost with the “more generous” members of the guild. Of course, it’s optional to charge a small fee to each attending member. When you do this, make sure that everyone knows that you are charging. Keep it minimal. It’s not about the costs, it’s about the fun.

Party activities - You may also ask members to bring gifts as prizes. Sometimes, the guild makes a pool of in-game items to be given away to winners of party games and contests. If you have a talented member, get him or her as a host. Some ideas for party activities include trivia, charades, drinking contests, or “bring me”. There are a lot more. When I attend a guild EB, I usually bring a couple of LU merchandise to give away. When they’re lucky, I announce a minor in-game item or in-game cash as prize. For the activities, form a committee with the host acting as the lead for this.

Have fun! - it’s not a rule, it’s a must! What’s a party if you’re not having fun? If you place nametags on attendees, the people will finally get to see the real faces of their online buddies. This is the place for you meet them, make new friends and retell your wacky online and offline “moments”.

I hope the above will help you in your next party.

And oh, don’t forget to invite me.

Cheers,

GM T
