Novus will never be the same. The war rages!

One of the issues encountered during our campaign for the new RF Novus Rising patch is the fact that it needs Windows SP3 to run. Well, after some testing, we found out that it only needs a PART of service pack 3: the Visual C++ Redistributable.

This is good news to all players/cafe owners who experience the error above. You no longer need to download SP3 in order for Novus Rising to work.

I’ve been asked this question lately by a lot of players: Will there be a new server for RF Online Philippines?

The answer is; not at the moment. With the advent of great developments for Novus Rising, allow me to share with you my own points on the matter.

Well, for one thing (and let me be honest with you), servers cost money. LOTS of money. I’m sure you all know that Level Up is a business and costs need to be justified. Right now, the 5 servers of RF Online still can accomodate the playing community so there’s no need for a new server at the moment.

Most players argue that the duped items, the inflated economy of the servers are not good situations to play in. Well, that’s true. But like I said in the past, we shall tackle that ONE STEP AT A TIME.

Right now, the RF Philippines team is focused on fixing the crashes on the servers (which is the main cause of all the duped items). We’ve done that with Novus Rising. As soon as everything is stable (i.e. minor bugs fixed, item mall is fully operational) then we will get down to work on fixing the economy.

As of this writing, my RF team has already drafted some plans towards this. I can’t share with you the details yet but rest assured that it will involve finding and getting rid of duped items. We’re even laying the groundwork for an amnesty program so those that bought duped stuff and were banned can get back their characters and start playing again.

I’d like everyone to know that we’re aware of the situation and we’re working closely with the developer (who has direct control on how to fix stuff) so that we can bring a better playing experience for all RF players. We’ve done the first big step with Novus Rising, which took almost a year in the making.

We thank you for your patience, loyalty and vigilance to the game. We are asking you to join us once more in this crusade to bring a fair and level playing field for everyone.

Last Friday, April 24, we took all the RF servers offline to setup the newest patch, Novus Rising. It took more than 24 hours non-stop to do. A million thanks goes to all the dedicated people who’ve sacrificed sleep (and their weekends) just to make sure that Novus Rising will be up and running.

The servers finally came up around 8am on Saturday morning. It wasn’t 100% perfect but we’re going to patch a lot of stuff ASAP.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who helped us make Novus Rising a success.

First would be Kim of CCR who flew in from Japan just to help us with the patch configuration. He’s got a lot to catch up on sleep, having worked more than 24-hours straight.

Also, I’d like to thank my RF team, ABM Cydie, CM Vessago and Game Manager Archie (and all our GMs) for really making sure everything was in place. Special thanks goes to project manager Chris Dee for coordinating with all the LU departments and doing the legwork with the timelines. Next up would be the product dev peeps led by Jed and Quing. Thanks guys! The ICT team also did the lion’s share of all thing technical. Thanks to ICT head Pao and his team.

Of course, the creative team led by Hazel, Gi and Adonna did great work (despite the rush) for all marketing and promotional materials. We didn’t have time to produce a gazillion DVDs for this patch (so it’s download only), yet our sales team led by Earl, Shella and Jojo will be going around the country and installing Novus Rising to your favorite cafes. Thanks guys!

Special mention would be the girls from Finance and Logistics for doing all the paperwork and coordinating for us. Thank you so much. Last but not least would be the Game Management and Customer Support team for all the support.

I guess I can’t thank and name everyone. If I missed anyone, my apologies.

Anyway, I hope that you guys enjoy Novus Rising… it was all worth the effort to bring a new dawn to the best sci-fi PVP MMORPG in our country – RF Online!

Great news! RF Novus Rising patches today, April 24, 2009.

To make the transition from Crimson Dawn to Novus Rising easier, I’ve compiled some important information for everyone. As of 7:00am today, all servers for RF Philippines went down to begin the task of setting up for Novus Rising.
