Finished: 1/6 Scale Joker Vinyl Kit

Me and a group of friends recently had a “group buy” and ordered online for a BUNCH of vinyl model kits. I got a couple of Star Wars kits to complete my collection (Artoo and Threepio) while my other friends got their own stuff. One of them got a fine Joker vinyl kit and he asked me to model and paint it for him (since he doesn’t know how).

So, after 3 weeks of cutting, assembling and painting, the work is finally done.

In Progress: Han Solo in Carbonite

Alright, it’s been around 3 weeks since I started this mod-build project. I’ve been working on it for 2 weekends out of the 3.

Here are some short updates about the build…

How To Make A Base For Your Scale Models Part 2

Last post, I showed you how to do the initial mold of the base via an old photo frame and some Plaster of Paris. This week, once the entire thing has dried, it’s time to add the details and then finally paint it.

Let’s go…

How To Make A Base for your Scale Models Part 1

Building a scale model is a great hobby. Having nice displays takes it to another level. In this post, I’m going to teach you guys how to make a simple base for your scale models, whether it be Gundams, Military models or sci-fi (like the one in the example: my Imperial AT-ST).

Shall we start?

In Progress: Star Wars AT-AT Model Kit

Photobucket

Already started initial assembly for this old ERTL-MPC model kit which buddy Alex and I got online. It’s a Star Wars AT-AT and it’s around 8-9 inches tall. Woot!

It even comes with Luke’s Snow Speeder! I reckon this will look great in a snow diorama setting. This was built straight out of the box with very minor modifications. There were flashes and seam-gaps and I had to fix them with putty and sanding.

More photos after the break…

Star Destroyer Model Kit: Let There Be Light

A couple of weeks ago, I posted theĀ  detailing and painting of my Star Destroyer project. For this post, I’m going to show you how I did lit up the kit step-by-step. I also finished up all the fiber optics this week and did a light test before mounting and cementing all the panels and the wires. Maybe just a week or so and this baby will be finally done. Can’t wait!

… Let’s dive right in, shall we?

Star Destroyer Model Kit Update

It’s been almost a year since I purchased this AMT-ERTL kit of the Star Wars Star Destroyer. I started by accurizing the kit with hundreds of styrene (credit card and other flat plastic parts) pieces. This is my second official Star Wars kit, the first one was a Fine Molds Tie Interceptor.

Now, after finishing a lot of Gundams, I’m back to the build/project. The goal is to detail the kit and ultimately to light it all up with fiber optics. So far, so good. Been wanting to try some techniques and more on this…. enjoying the entire process so far.

Let’s dive into the work in progress…

My Modeling Workshop

Photobucket

Just wanted to share with you my workbench and the tools I use for Gundam/Model Kit bashing. I also have some gear for Toy Photography.

Basically, the setup is the entire third floor of our house, which is an open terrace/attic. There, during weekends, the gang converges and we do all sorts of wacky stuff… most of which gets posted here and in my Facebook fan page.

Anyways, check out more nifty pics after the break…

Gundam Tieren Diorama Part 3 (Final Stages)

I suggest you check out Part 1 and Part 2 of this project before you go further. I already pre-built the Tieren for this project.

Anyways, just a short recap from the previous post. I was finished with doing the battle-damage for the fallen Gundam and so far, I’m quite satisfied with the “aging” and the results. I also finished the base of the diorama using a wood base, Styrofor and Plaster of Paris. After initial layers of cheapo acyrlic via hand-brush, it’s now time to glue and set the “turf” (grass and the terrain) and then paint it for the final effect.

Let’s start…

In Progress: Gundam Tieren Diorama

To raise the bar on my model kit (modeling) hobby skillz, I’ve decided to make my first diorama. The protagonist for this piece is my Tieren Ground Type which I completed October of last year. I’m sure it will look better in a nicely detailed diorama.

For the diorama, I’m envisioning a battle-torn, slightly elevated hill. On the foreground is a wrecked Gundam, torn into pieces via missle, laser and melee attacks…. while the Tieren troops and mecha close in to investigate.
