Model Kits: Leia 1/6 Scale Vinyl Kit

About a month ago, I started work on the Princess Leia 1:6 vinyl model kit. I decided to do this project right after finishing the Darth Vader, also in vinyl. I guess I prolly learned a thing or two on that project so I can apply it to Leia. This is my first real, flesh/human model kit and one of my frustration is doing the eyes. I don’t believe I did a fine job with the eyes on this one but as they say “practice makes perfect”.

This Princess Leia isn’t as detailed as some of the kits I found on the web (for reference) but I guess it’ll do. Btw, this is part of our sci-fi haul and I’m doing my best to finish all the kits there so I can go back to Gundams and military models.

Finished: Star Wars AT-AT and Diorama

Wohoooo!

At last, am finally done with this project. I started during the Christmas break and was finally able to do the snow/Hoth scene dio.

Check out more of the pics after the break. I promise to upload my Work-In-Progress (W.I.P.) photos and notes soon.

Finished: AT-ST

Photobucket

Finally finished last weekend the Star Wars AT-ST kit from ERTL-MPC. This kit is among the sci-fi haul I got a couple of months ago.

It took just 2 weekends to assemble and paint. I even finished the small base (of which I have a tutorial HERE and HERE).

In Progress: Star Wars AT-AT Model Kit

Photobucket

Already started initial assembly for this old ERTL-MPC model kit which buddy Alex and I got online. It’s a Star Wars AT-AT and it’s around 8-9 inches tall. Woot!

It even comes with Luke’s Snow Speeder! I reckon this will look great in a snow diorama setting. This was built straight out of the box with very minor modifications. There were flashes and seam-gaps and I had to fix them with putty and sanding.

Star Wars Star Destroyer

A couple of weeks ago, I snatched a rare ERTL Star Destroyer model kit at Greenhills. At a little above P2,000.00, it’s a steal.

This is going to be a long project… probably taking a couple of months to finish, mainly due to the sparse detail of the kit. I also plan to do my first lighting project for a model kit. This will be done with LEDs, fiber optic cables, normal bulbs a lots and lots of wires, switches and mini EC boards.

Meanwhile, check out the other photos of the unboxing of my Star Destroyer… coming up…

US M1A1 Abrams Tank 1:35 Model Kit Part 1

As promised during my last modeling post about the Gundam Blitz, I worked on my new 1/35 scale M1A1 Abrams during the Lenten break. I had a lot of fun and the entire thing was relaxing and somewhat therapeutic.

The Abrams is the main battle tank of the US armed forces and saw action in Iraq in 2003. The kit is from Academy of Korea and is very nicely detailed with sharp seams and a good fit.

As a bit of trivia, no US M1A1 Abrams was ever destroyed by opposing enemy fire. This beast is the most powerful tank in the world and it’s one of the reasons why I have to have it for my collection, moreso, it being one of my first detailed modern military armor to be assembled.

1997 Ford Mustang 1:25 Part 2

Alrighty! I finally got time to upload the pics on part 2 of my new 1997 Ford Mustang model kit. In case you’re wondering, you can find part 1 of this post here.

Meanwhile, just a short recap of the first phase of the project: I managed to wetsand and primer the car; did some adjusting and putty for the bumpers and allowed everything to dry and cure. The second phase of the project is to now apply the white base coat in preparation for the MANY layers of paint (just like a real car, damnit!).

Check out the progress photos and report after the jump…
