Marvel Universe Online Officially Dead

Sad news indeed.

Last October, I broke out a post about Marvel Universe Online (and even showed a teaser video) - It was supposed to be an MMORPG co-developed by Cryptic Studios and Microsoft. With the upcoming release of Iron Man in theaters, it would have been a perfect coup to market and launch this game.

Apparently, your dreams to play Iron Man or Wolverine won’t see the light of day.

1Up has announced during an interview with Microsoft Game Studios head Shane Kim that they have officially stopped development of the game.

Marvel Universe Online

There’s very little information about the up and coming title co-developed by Microsoft and Cryptic Studios.

There’s a short blurb about it at the Cryptic Studios website. The wikipedia entry also states that the game is being developed for both the XBox 360 and PC/Windows Vista (of course, it’s Microsoft). Release date is a “To Be Announced” 2008.

Perhaps Mr. Gates wants to have something to augment the huge windfall of Halo 3.
