I just wanted to share with you something I found for sale online; it’s Guitar Praise, a Christian rendition of Guitar Hero. It comes with a software (for Mac or PC) and a guitar (sold separately).

The concept for Guitar Praise is simple. Share good, wholesome, Christian music with your friends via a cool game that emulates Guitar Hero. Nothing wrong with that. The site that sells the game wrote; “Grab the guitar and play along with top Christian bands! Shred those riffs or blast the bass…you add a unique sound to the solid Christian rock.”.

Guitar Praise Features

Offers over 50 songs with 4 levels of play per song – from easy to expert.

If you’re already legal, then head on over to Magnet for a wild night of Guitar Hero and Rock Band this Friday, August 1.

Who says they need bands?!?

Bands!?! We don’t need no stinkin’ bands! Bring the noise and your game to Magnet Café this Friday, August 1st. We’re breaking out the plastic axes for a full night of rhythm game goodness starting 9pm. Rock out with your friends or make a few at the bar and form a supergroup for Rockband. More of soloist? No problemo. Test your chops in head to head battle with Guitar Heroes II&III. The only rule you have to pay attention to is, like any good rock god worth their salt, you gotta down a couple drinks before you make it to the mic. The more belligerent the better. Magnet Café, Bonifacio High Street (behind Nike). Call 856-3400 to make reservations.

Oh and yeah, I might be there… so I’ll be saying y’all!

That’s right!

The soon-to-be-released Guitar Hero: World Tour has added a drum set, mic and a brand new spanking design to their guitar as part of an entirely package and experience. Obviously in an effort to pounce on Rock Band, the guys at Guitar Hero are at it to make both gameplay and gadgets shine with innovation and clever ideas (like the Music Creator) that I hope won’t disappoint.

What’s new with the GH drums? One word – cymbals! Check it out…

Before we get to the drums, let’s start off with the new addition to the guitar

According to IGN, the new guitar now has a touch pad; ”The biggest addition to the new guitar is the touch pad located on the neck. While playing a song, this touch sensitive strip allows you to alter notes during sustains by sliding up and down the strip (giving more freedom and options than what you had before with just a whammy bar). It can also be used for tapping to play notes, particularly awesome if you want to mimic a slap bass. The real power of the touch pad comes in the music creator.”

The Drums

Three pads, two raised cymbals, and one bass pedal make up the action elements of this new drum peripheral. That equates to the basic setup of a snare, two toms, two cymbals and a bass drum. The two cymbals are raised above the three primary pads and, on the prototype set we got a look at, had hinges and swivels on them so that you could position them how you wanted. To activate star power with the kit you simply hit both cymbals at the same time.

The first thing you’ll notice when you see the kit in action is that it’s quieter than the Rock Band drums, which is great news for neighbors everywhere. Each drum head is eight inches in diameter, slightly larger than Rock Band’s kit, so you’ll be less likely to miss when things get heated. Like the guitar, this puppy is wireless. That won’t really aid you in your posturing, but it will keep your room less cluttered.

Music Creator

You don’t just create songs by laying out a note track. You can simply play and the game will do the rest for you. Or you can get technical and go deep into the editor. The only downside is that you can’t record a vocal track. Legal quashed that one and, when you think about what ugly doors vocal recordings could open, it makes sense. The music creator includes a wizard to help newbies hop into the process quickly and painlessly. Select a premade bassline and a drum loop, adjust the tempo between fast, medium or slow and you’ve got the basics laid out for you. Even if you don’t have a good sense of rhythm, you can make a song by telling the game to lock your notes to the beat.

Finally, I leave you with a demo video of the drums in action…

Why, you may ask?

She video-taped a portion for the ABS-CBN morning show “Umagang Kay Ganda” last Thursday. I guess the show was was looking for good Guitar Hero players…. (check out one of the comments here) and found us (*snicker). Well, we didn’t just showed her just guitars but the entire band – Rock Band (for the Xbox 360).

Rica interviewed Level Up International Content Director Phil Cahiwat and then GameBoss Ben Colayco and myself invited her to jam with us. With Ben playing the drums, Phil on guitars, me on rythm guitar and Rica doing the vocals. We had a blast! (That’s Phil behind us “internalizing” for the interview)

The segment will be aired next week. I’ll make sure to post it at our youtube channel once I get a copy.

Just goes to show that Level Uppers are real gamers!

Rok On!!!

Last weekend, me and my officemates showed someone who knows how to play a real guitar how to play Guitar Hero 3. Yes, there seems to be some sort of connection between skill in real life and with the “fake guitar” of the game. The dude then said, “It would be wonderful if this game could actually be used on a real guitar!”. Agree.

Which made me searching. True enough, I found Guitar Rising – which, according to their site is “a music video game where the player plays a real guitar as cued by the game’s visuals. Following rock music sequences and streaming notes, players play guitar melodies and rhythms. Beginner difficulty levels are designed for non-guitar players and hard difficulties will challenge experienced guitarists.”

Real guitars!!! Sweet!

A video is better than words. So, here goes:

The game is expected to be released in late 2008. They didn’t say for what platform. I’m guessing it’s for PC and maybe some consoles.

Kewl!

Project Officer Alex Mena brought his Xbox 360 and we “borrowed” the LCD projector from the conference room. Then some guys brought their Guitar Hero 3 guitars, we pumped up the volume and we rocked like hell ’til late in the evening.

I have to admit, it was my first time to play Guitar Hero and it was a blast. It was so fun and addicting that I had to find a way to play it at home. I still don’t have an Xbox 360 yet but I am saving for it and have plans to buy it this year.

Of course, I had to try EASY difficulty first. Then I slowly progressed to Medium.

The most fun part was doing a coop (Bass + Guitar) with a friend. We really had a blast playing cool metal hits like One by Metallica and my favorite song, Stricken by Disturbed.

Slowly, you’ll get the hang of it if you just listen to the song and “sync” yourself to the beat. Truly is a wonderful game and I have to hit myself in the head for just playing it now. And yeah, I had to borrow a Guitar Hero 3 set for the PS2 from a friend so I could practice at home (I don’t want the LU guys to get so much ahead of me hehehe).

And yeah, there’s also Rock Band, which is also a guitar-based game but you gut the entire band set, Mic, a bass, lead guitar, and a drum set! I got to try the drums for the first time last Saturday at the birthday party of Game Boss Ben Colayco and his friends, Phil, Syam and Patrick P. Yeah, baby! I rocked it!

Guitar Hero 3 costs around $100 or so (P4,000 to 5,000) and Rock Band will set you off for $170 (P7,000 to 8,000 depending on where).

Rock on!!!

P.S. The best player in Level Up, you ask? It’s a girl. Sigh.
