Switching DSL Providers

For the longest time, I’ve been using Globe broadband. It’s a love-hate relationship with that DSL provider.

My main complaint is that the signal is always intermittent… on this minute, down the next. Rain and storm will almost always make this situation worse. I’m also not entirely happy with their customer service and the way they handle an issue. It took around 7 trips by different technicians to determine that the problem wasn’t with my modem or cables but was with their cabinet, the node where all the splitting gets done – this is usually located in a nearby telephone post or box.

Now, after around 3 years, it’s time to move on. Goodbye Globe, am heading off to PLDT tomorrow to get the QIK (the Quick Install Kit).

Gigabit Speeds For Philippines This Year

DSL Speeds Per Country

Rarely do I know of a fellow Pinoy (living here in the Philippines, of course) who does NOT complain about our slow (and expensive) DSL/Broadband connections. When I was in Korea, DSL was uber-fast! I downloaded an 800MB file in about 7 minutes – something that would require almost overnight back in my house.

Check out the comparative chart above on DSL speeds per country. As expected, Japan and Korea led the pack. Broadband there is fast and cheap! And yes, they do not need CDs to distribute online games like we do. Wanna know how cheap the rates are? Click below… (more…)
