Swine Flu Hits Philippines

Now that we already have a couple of confirmed cases of Swine Flu or A(H1N1) virus here in our country, it’s time to take caution. The first thing to remember is NOT TO PANIC. It’s no cause for alarm. The government, c/o the DOH are already on top of the problem.

In light of these there are a few YM and text messages circulating about the area where the Swine Flu is. My advice? Don’t believe them. These are all rumors at the moment. What I’d want to share with you are some tips on how to prevent flu (and other disease) from spreading.

How to Combat Flu

  1. Always wash your hands. Having an alcogel or alchohol handy is also good.
  2. Cover your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing. Do this with a napkin or tissue. If it’s an emergency, DO NOT USE YOUR HANDS. Sneeze into the inside of your elbow. Using your hands will spread it when you shake someone else’s hands or come into close contact with others.
  3. Stay away from people (at least 6 feet) who are sick
  4. If you are sick, do not go to work or school. Stay at home and call a doctor.
  5. Vitamins and proper diet can help prevent flu
  6. Swine Flu is killed by heat (around 75 to 100 degrees C)

That’s it for now. Remember not to panic and always be on the alert. The key here is to avoid contact with sick people or those who you think have flu.

Stay safe!

If you look at the pandemic of 1977, when H1N1 or Swine Flu re-emerged after a 20 year absence, there is no shift in age-related mortality pattern. The 1977 “pandemic” is, of course, not considered a true pandemic by experts today, for reasons that are not entierely consistent. It certainly was an antigenic shift and not an antigenic drift. As far as I have been able to follow the current events, the most significant factor seems to have been that most people, who were severely affected, were people with other medical conditions.

i think that in asian countries the Swine Flu did not spread rapidly compared to those countries that are located in colder climates. we should still be very thankful that the swine flu did not cause massive infections.
