Russian Gets 3 Years for RO Private Server

June 23, 2007 · Filed Under MMORPG News, MMOments, Ragnarok

I never thought I’d see the day when an actual operator of an illegal Ragnarok private server will be behind bars. Here in our country, our company has worked closely with the authorities to search and raid Internet shops and establishments operating or patronizing private servers - whether they be LAN-based or those operating online.

But don’t screw with the Red Police… they mean business. Good work, comrades! (Yuri would be proud).

According to news from both destructiod.com and ospint, “the Tver District Court of Moscow has sentenced Valentin Kiseliov, who developed an emulator of the server part of the online game Ragnarok Online, to a conditional three-year prison term.”

Poor Kiseliov was found guilty of violating game copyright (article 145, part 3, paragraph ‘in’ of the Russian criminal code) which belonged to Gravity CIS in the territory of the Russian Federation.

The news article further states that “the damaged party claimed that Kiseliov had used an illegal copy of the ‘official’ server part’s code in its emulator. Kiselev protests that the emulator was written from scratch and is going to file an appeal to the Moscow City Court.”

Affirmative!

I wonder if Russian gulags have plush Porings as pillows?

wow 1st time I heard of someone being imprisoned due to p. servers, but there’s still about a thousand more illegal p. server operators out there not including other popular online games p. servers…

I hope all illegal Private Servers’ operators (especially Ruff-Rose) gets the same punishment as this guy. :x

My brother tells me he tried some private server named Neffelheim near our subdivision, but he also told me that it was only accesible within the cafe. and some had levels of 150+.

But I still do not know if the cafe still continues to operate up until now. Why don’t level-up campaign for “gamer police”, i mean gamers who would see any illegal private servers would report them to proper authorities, that is if level-up is really trying to finish off all illegal private servs. Just a suggetion.

I don’t think you still can remember my name.
Anyway, OT lang ako dito sa blog mo. Ask lang about Rachel Patch in Sakray. Is it going to be on June 27. This coming wednesday maintenance? Where can we look for installers for this? Is there any links for manual patch?
    Thanks for the info.

    @topic
Sakray is still most accurate for test builds in pRO. But hope there is no load needed for this. In this way you can encourage some other players to return in the game. Why not sell some items in hypermart like what you did during the RWC elims. And also in this way, you can fight private servers here in our country. Just a try. It won’t hurt you. Thanks for the reply.

The server in Russia was based on eAthena in the first in the second have condemned it for it (the court was not competent of Russia about the server equipment) in third it to judge it was necessary not for a server part and for change of the client (the module of a update).

  7. Den Ra on June 25th, 2007 2:55 pm

1 - Russian server RusRO was based on eAthena
2 - Russian court, because of incompetence in information technologies, convicted _Domby?_ for first point
3 - Also russian court confused with definition as server’s part and client’s part of code, and maked judjement based on client’s part

Oh, I believe that Russia has lots of gamers. Tetris came from there and has since come a long way. I was amazed that Ragnarok made it there…

  13. Den Ra on June 27th, 2007 6:24 pm

“Gamer” is not ment to be bound to any country, “personality” that is what matters, therefore it’s foolish to judge a country depending on it’s players

There IS RO in Russia. In fact, there is a map specially designed for Russian RO only - Moscovia.

  15. Aerionn Brightmoon on June 28th, 2007 10:21 am

well, a precedent hes been set. the russian court decision will now be part of the growing body of intellectual property jurisprudence that can be used in other jurisdictions.

    not bad.

    :)
