I’ve been receiving a lot of questions and requests about when Philippine Ragnarok Online will finally join almost all the MMORPGs here and go Free to Play.
Players have been asking, our sales people have been bugging me and even people here at the office have pointed this to me a lot of times.
And yes, there ARE rumors out there about pRO going F2P. This post is both a “yes and a no” and hopefully, clarify everything at the end of the day.
Let me give you an inside scoop about the top secret “Valkyrie Project”.

GOING FREE?
Some may have heard about the “Valkyrie Project”. Here’s what’s real;
3 months ago, our CEO tasked our department to look into the idea of RO going free to play. Upon much deliberation, late nights at the office and trying to pull out our hairs; Wauks then started research on the how the other countries with Ragnarok were doing. I already heard about “something strange and peculiar” in RO China. True enough, Waukeen came back to me and found out the China had all F2P servers – with a twist.
The drop rates were different, the Item Mall setup was also slightly different. Although it was STILL the same RO gameplay and feel, the mechanics of the China servers was what excited us all.
We then burned the midnight oil trying to glean more information on the subject. With the help of our friends from Gravity and the Game Gurus (the GMs from our Product Developement dept), and yes… after a million meetings – Project Valkyrie was born.
Valkyrie will be a FREE-TO-PLAY server. We will launch this commercial server on October 10! Yey! The other commercial worlds (Baldur, Tyr and the rest) will still retain their old business model (subscription + item mall). I’ll have to see first how the Valkyrie server does.
At any rate, the pRO team will be announcing the teasers and put up the marketing materials about Valkyrie (you may have seen the loading screen inside the game na) this week.
Here are some more teasers and bullets about Valkyrie:

- Slotted items, weapons and gear are also NOT dropped
- Some maps are PVP enabled
- Ori and Elu are almost NOT dropped, quested or found
- You can buy these and other items at the ITEM MALL
- We will release a CD for this patch (3 CDs)
- Valkyire already has Rachel (whatever the commercial worlds have, Valkyrie has)
- If you already have RO installed, you just need to download a 5MB fix.
- Characters CANNOT be migrated
Before the violent reactions, let me inform you that we have tested this thoroughly and gathered feedback from key players – both current players and those who already quit Ragnarok.
The item prices are fairly reasonable. For example, slotted mufflers cost P10 and various slotted weapons cost from P10 to P50. Even PVP cards such as Tharas, Raydric, and Hydras are anywhere from P20 to P100. And don’t worry about the boss cards, we’ll REGULATE it and will sell a limited supply only. And no, they won’t be released all in one blow – we have an item and card release schedule: think “Magic: The Gathering” boxed sets and you’ll know what I mean.
I also want this server to be dupe and bot-free. So constant testing and confirmation is being done now. We want those items to have value so duping, cheats will be absolutely be unacceptable.

Hello GM Tristan and posters, I’ve been playing RO since it first came out, quitted, and went back again. As of yesterday, I just decided to quit playing from the Thor Server and decided to wait for valkyrie. As for the bot problems in Thor, I bleive that the vanguards and the Midgard Police have been doing a great job banning these abusive players, so I guess they won’t have much problem for valyrie (esp. PK, let other players deal with the bots).
As for valkyrie, I think it would be a hit. A greater start, free to play game, since I know a whole lot of kiddos who watch me when I play at shops saying that they dreamed of playing RO but they can only afford computer rentals (RO Unplugged should be a bit more strict). But I think that the only disadvantage would be that the players with richer families would most likely dominate the game, which could end up in disappointment for others when their looking for, let’s say, a better place to build relations/friendship. But then, I know there isn’t any perfect servers, so problems would arise every now and then, but overall, I’m looking forward to Valkyrie and be assured this project has been in my prayers. pahabol, Filipinos have brilliant minds, more on the negative and less on the positive. They try to make bots and LU tries its best to defend the game from bots, and the RO tech team wouldn’t be eating crackers while bots ruin Midgard. Battle of brilliant minds, but I believe that it will always turn out for the better in the end. Sana lang wag naman maghari ang mga mayayaman sa pRO Valkyrie, as of the MVP Cards at Hypermart, for me, that would be heaven, but for others, to be fair nalang, sana di na ibenta sa hypermart, baka may mga obsessed children na hindi na kumakain may ipambili lang ng load, promise, I wa shocked (I’m a nurse) na nagkaron ako ng pediatric patient na hindi na kumakain para lang makabili ng load ng RO. /omg

Ragnarok – i played this game since it was beta… kaso lang pumangit na nun lumabas yung bot… mga botters lang lumalakas, sobrang yaman.. compared to some manual players na sobrang fanatic in RO na sobrang nag-iisip of techniques how to conquer the game or to be successful. When bot came sobrang boring na ng laro… Nakakainggit yung iba nagchachat nalang kc naka bot nman sila… Wow d bah? They get more items and cards than the usual manual player does. Basta sobrang boring na na makakakita ka ng character na parang naglalarong walang buhay di mo man lang makausap, tele ng tele lang.. iba talaga tulad ng dati andun yung interaction… friendship even love… Nakapaglaro na rin ako ng ibang games… Tales of Pirates, Ran Online, Flyff, Even Ragnarok Online II Korean Beta nilalaro ko ngayon… What Im thinking about this server Free to Play – Valkyrie guys… cguro napapansin nyo parang unfair d bah dahil lahat binibili… think about it… about the other games… may iba nabibili mo tapos nawawala after 7 days… you need to be a pure adik to satisfy dun sa nabili mo… yung iba naman cost 3k for a permanent good item… mas maganda na yun kesa nawawala…d bah? Think about the Valkyrie server… pwedeng maging bot free.. kasi PK mo lang bots dun d na makakapag-tele. Tsaka ano use ng Zeny? I have a comment, If you really hate valkyrie so bad dont play it. LUG is not begging you to play the server and most of all server is made to the player who wants to play for free besides if you dont agree to their game condition to make long story short dont play…
Meron ng teleport mga ungas… cguro takot lang mga botters na mawalan ng pagkakakitaan… uu nga naman pag walang mga gamit wala silang magiging zeny… and aim naman ng LU is para wala ng magbot d bah? e2 Valkyrie Server talaga ng walang magbobot… kung meron man for level lang and.. its so hard for botter na mangayri yung kc ala na zeny babye na business kaya grabe silang mag react hehehe… the Server have 2500+ plus na ngayon.. cguro naman d lahat bot and we level by partying not botting.. cge ingatz nalang sa mga ibang servers na talamak sa bot.. malakas lang dun mg botter hehehe ^^

My question, has botting become a form of cyber-bullying in pRO? From the way I read and interpret the meanings behind some botter’s rant is that he/they need to prove himself/themselves strong by putting down other people, sometimes to the point of hurting other people virtually, through words and actions.

Sir, i went to some shops at may mga botter pa rin po at may auto-log out at log in po sila para di mahuli.
hay akala ko pa naman malinis ang server na ito. nag-quit na ako sa vanro para maglaro uli sa PRO pero naturn-off ako after knowing na may mga bot pa sa valkyrie.

Tama si fatman, cyber bullying nga yan kung maiituring. Some people like to harass others whom they think are below themselves in this virtual society that are MMORPGs. Nakakatawa, nagaangas at nagyayabang. The mere fact na laro lang ito ay nagsusuggest na walang stable na future na makukuha ang isang taong ginagawang pseudo-life niya ito. Entertainment lang ito at pampalipas oras. Feeding your ego by manifesting ignorant principles is just so let’s say immature and childish. Brag and brag. What they can’t do in the realm of reality they commit rigorously in these cyber worlds. So sa mga botters diyan na nagbrabrag na mas magaling sila sa ibang hindi nagbobot, magisipisip muna kayo kung may value ang pananalita ninyo. Puro salitang balbal at informal jargons nalang lumalabas. Well, sa tingin ko it’s to much to ask for every people to be act decently on the internet. Pasalamat kayo dahil may anonymity dito. But in reality, values are earned through an active conscience. Babanat ng babanat ng mga salita just to feed their o so pitiful ego. Isipin niyo na lang kung sinong tatawa sa huli pag nasa harap na kayo ng mundo kung saan moralidad ang dapat nanaig.

I am a current player of Valkyrie,,,, actually returning player ako ng RO,,, tagal ko na tinigil un kc ang dami malalakas at mayayaman by botting lang,,, sobrang unfair kc,,,, valkyrie currently have 6000 players and still counting…
tama ung sinabi ng iba,,, mahirap ung walang tele at bwing,,, kc natry ko na madeds dahil naubusan ako ng arrow equips,,, tapos wala akong tele at bwing ayun nadeds ang archer na walang kalaban laban,,, but all is for a reason naman eh,, no boss mvp card drop, slotted weapons and armors, ibig sabhin hindi yayaman mga botter d2,, kung meron man magbot cguro para makapaglevel lang,,, and tulad din ng sabi ng iba,, useless ang zenny d2 kc mabibili na mga cards and equips for php….. but looking on the brighter side,, free to play naman =) i am no longer oblige to play everyday para lang d masayang ung load ko na 100php for 1 week,,, aheheheh lalo na sa tulad ko na konti lang time para makapaglaro,,, dahil sa work ko…
anyway,, its nice to be back! aheheh congratulations sa level up for the success launching of project valkyrie! para sa mga wala pang valkyrie client,,,, download u lang sa level up ung full client… after that,, bago nyo i patch ung valkyrie,, patch nyo muna ung RO client… kc ung valkyrie client agad ung i patch nyo may lalabas na err na ‘cannot find file: /sprite’ tips lang pow para sa mga gustong maglaro ng valkyrie,,,,
to add up din pala,,, some maps are pk enabled,,,, at dahil walang tele or bwing,,, kung meron man nagbobot e madali nalang patayin un,,,, ahehehe

I’m a level 48 thief named BrianTam in Valkyrie. i started my thief a week ago and I’m currently leveling up in the Sograt Dessert. To be exact, go out of Izlude to the left and keep going down. When you reached the portal, you will see Baby Dessert Wolves i think and some Pickys. Again, keep going down and you will notice two portals separated by a mountain formation. Go to the right portal and you will enter a map filled with Pecopecos. Go down again and you will enter the Sograt Dessert in which I level in.
When you enter that Sograt Dessert, you will see Snakes, Anacondaqs, Side Winders and Dessert Wolves. Now, I’m level up and i can see 10 players of almost the same names. And they are:

2 Priests and 8 Monks leveling in that area. I thought it was a coincidence that all 10 characters had the same names. I then thought that this guy owned a Interet Cafe and was super addicted to the game and decided to open 10 computers and play 10 different characters in it and had his friends play with him.
At first, i find it strange because they are really strong characters judging by their damage which is around 250-350. So what i thought at first was,
“These guys are so lazy to level up their characters in high level monsters because they don’t want to waste their pots”.
I laughed about that matter and that’s the end of the day so i slept. The next morning i quickly turned on my PC becuase (I’m a noob) I found Ragnarok Valkyrie Philippines to be rather exciting. So i logged in, and went to the same spot where i leveled and i found the same 10 characters leveling up in the same spot. All 2 Priests and 8 Monks in the same spot.
It’s been about 3 weeks and I made my own Knight. Level 59 named BernieTam and I’m currently using it to spy on them because my thief can’t handle the damage the monsters inflict on me. So I started getting suspicious that these players or should I say an addicted player opening 10 computers is actually a bot!
It’s been another week (i’m not kidding) and I still see them in the same place doing killing every monster they see (Snakes, Anacondaqs, Dessert Wolfves, Side Winders, Drops and Poporings). And I’ve bore a grudge on them because a lot of my online friends who are not bot users party with me in the same Sograt Dessert as those 10 botters and they somehow steal all the monsters. We all have this spot in the map where a lot of Snakes and Anacondaqs spawn and we see a Monk or two go there and attack the same monsters we attack.
Point is, i think something should be done like, observe them. I find all the other players who are not bot users and those who strive to level up with the bot users. Please GM Tristan, I’d greatly appreciate if you make a move on them or something, i think we all know that around 40% or more Valkyrie players use bots. Please sir, I’d really, really, really, really appreciate it if you do something about them.

E hlos lahat ng players sa byalan lvl. 3 e BOT.
Sana po matanggal na ang mga bot na yan, lugi kaming naglalaro ng manual playing.
gossssh!!!!! sobra sobra dami mhga bot ala nakong makausap ehe lalo na sa byalan ganyan bot lahat!!!! nako noh tsa tama po ung iba pede pabalik nalang ung bwing at flywing and tele!!!!!!!! ang hirap… lalo na sa pk ehh yoko naman sa pk minsan scam ung iba!!!!! pede plssssssss balik nlang… tsaka pla ung sa sprit error mali ung information na binigay ko…. sori sori… dapat pla 1 day ako nag research hah dpat pla patch neo ung ragna online.. un lang d po ako makapasok this tym sira ba valkyrie?>?????? nako!!!!!!!!!!
ok lang naman khit mag bot kc nga eh SOBRANG BABA NG DROP RATE!!!!tpos halos lahat ng kelangan mo para sa character eh bibilin mo,sus nu ba yan,kaya ok lang kung walang anti bot,de mag bot na lang kyo para masaya diba?heheheh,,,,,peace tyo!!!!
guys mas excited nga yung ganun eh,kc talagang gaganahan ka,tapos wala GR!kaya hindi mawawalan ng silbi ang asura ng mga CHAMP diba???kaso talagang may CONFLICT yung ginawa ng GM,dapat talaga 100%drop rate ng elu and oridecon,ang nakakainis lang pano ka gaganahan mag boss hunt kung wala naman cards na ibibigay diba??PVP na lang ba??????????
GM Tristan Honestly you can’t stop the botting i think… there’s always a counter-anti on your anti. so many good underground programmers maybe, i also used bot i admit, kasi naman hirap ng magpalevel kapag 90 na… but its more fun kung sakaling may solution na toh… i remember the first launch of this game i really enjoy it… but few months after that, meron ng mga bot programs… tapos ngaun meron pang-Dupe… kasi meron akong nakilala noon binigyan nya kami ng tigpa-500M kasi daw sawa na sya sa zennies few clicks lang daw yon bawi na nya… imagine that… hope to make this game more secure… camaraderie? wala na sya kasi 80% bot na!!! ito lang ang networkgame na paboritong kong laruin… if only i can help but mas magagaling talaga sila…isumbong ko kaya syo yong ibang programmers hehe… Have a nice day sir…
GM tristan, I agreed with angel, I guess there is no stopping for botting, I also believe that those who provide bot programs are working from levelupgames itself =) just a conclusion, but I dont have any evidence. Anyway, Right now im playing Grand Chase, and I kinda enjoy it ^_^ Hope you’ll also release Ragnarok 2. I was able to download one on the internet, onyl the languae is korean and I cant understand it. So I stop playing it. ^_^
asa pa na walang bot yan… nag laro ako last year pa, pinaloadan ko p ung account ko.. puro bot p rin. ang dami ko n nbasa na blogs tungkol d2.. same old thing. free 2 play?? come on, it is inevitable na mag sasara rin yang ragnarok kasi wla ng players, example na lang yung pag merge nila ng mga servers into one.. business is business… wala n rin fresh new players n mglalaro p nito.. it is very easy to identify botters, kahit cnu kaya mag identify kung bot o hindi. but still they are not banned from the game, bcuz business is business..
