Ragnarok: Server Merge - Insights
Now that Ragnarok Server Merge is finally done, there were many comments, feedback (and of course, criticism, whining and flaming) both on the boards and in Waukeen’s blog.
Much of it had do to with the actual mechanics and technicalities of the merge. The “name change” aspect has to be the most controversial since there were many same names both for individuals and guilds. Much of all the male whining has to do somewhat with who was the “original” owner of the name.
Methinks that the pRO team, together with the help of our Korean Gravity support staff, did a fine job of announcing the mechanics and entertaining community inquiries on it. But this post is not about the technical nuances of the merge but rather, an insight/look into the deeper factors for the future of Ragnarok.
First on the list has to be politics. Throughout the process of the merge, large and powerful guilds have joined forces with their server counterparts. I have heard of alliances in Chaos and Loki, for instance, and in other servers as well. Much of the meetings and dialogues has something to do with RPC 2007, of course… and I am happy that the top guilds, their leadership and individual players are already planning for it. The Agit scoring phase will officially start on Thursday, May 24; I am told. This should be an exciting thing to watch. Already, the numbers for Ragnarok are increasing. This is partly due to the merge and also to RPC 2007 - the country’s biggest and baddest MMORPG tournament still. Although the pRO team are now running the details for RPC, yours truly is still tournament director for the entire LIVE 2007 series of tournaments. Wish me the best of luck in managing it.
Yep, you can call RPC a war. In a war, politics is key to either losing or winning. Good alliances (and deals) have to be forged. And I really think that the merge has “upped the ante” in a sense and has put another huge “metagame” into the table.
The second reason is to bring back the fun. Right after the merge, the streets of Prontera were full again and I saw some people with chat windows saying “Looking for Loki GF, I’m from Chaos” or recruiting their server-mates into their own guilds. When was Prontera this busy (and fun)?
These are just some of the many facets of the merge. I will be monitoring the alliances and the “wars” soon enough and hopefully update this story with more insights.
What about you? What are your thoughts about the merge? Am curious to know
Thanks!

The problem is that the company changed the mechanics for the name change during the server merging process. That’s why players got so angry. So who made the mistake now? o__o;
Lag Kills :3
Overall, the merge is fun
dumami tao, lalo na pag seige
pero…daming probs especially in TYR
ie LAG n DOWN MAPS
TYR is just ODIN server,
pinalitan ng pangalan,
saka pinatong ang fenrir
d naman po sila gumawa ng bagong server, kainis nga
SAYANG PO 3x, LAKAS LAG
GAWA SANA NEW SERVER, ung talagang bago
again…
Overall, the merge is fun
dumami tao, lalo na pag seige ^_^
As much as we DID NOT want to change ANY of the merge rules, this was a last minute decision by Gravity.
Re the lag. We already know this and are doing steps to make connections better
Thanks for the feedback
ano meaning nung sinasabi ng iba about yung same IP lang ang Baldur sa Chaos?
Yung Tyr same IP sa Odin?
Pa explain naman
ANO ba yung sinasabi ng iba na
same lang ang IP ng Chaos and Baldur,
Tyr and Odin? bkt ganun? pa explain lang
Err.. BTW, why are some accounts keep on getting disconnected during character selection? o.o
not touching my characters on Tyr until this all dies down. that’s my solution.
will there be a chance for sarah odin and chaos to avail the privilege of name change?
Why would you need the IP for?
Some of them well, we know why. Others COULD sow doubt about what happened during the merger, but I’d rather not delve into the issue further. Bigger and better communities beckon here. Nice work for the pRO Team in pulling this off.
Sir Mon, can I kindly ask about the Honor Roll program? Can submission of TCGs be done IRL for it? Also, how do I get to check if my account has my RL name on it? Baka kasi disqualified ang account ko dahil di full RL name nakalagay.
I wil not answer OT comments. Please comment on the honor roll post so that things are clean (and cool)
I can deliver tons of Insights but majority of them will be negative, you would ask why …
Negatives,
1. The population increased, yet the server got worse, it had more LAGs, Bugs, and errors. It occured frequently than before. You can eventually feel it during Siege/WOE.
2. Many people are victim of Illegal Items, I mean illegal in the sense that these items are invalid, like Dupes etc, So until these Dupes would be totally wiped out, the game would still remain unenjoyable, and this will cause imbalance and bad RPC.
3. Changing and revising an announced announcement is bad, really bad. It kills not just the integrity of your company but also the trust of your consumers/customers. And lately, I heard that you want the wiping to be than Bit by Bit, after announcing the wiping only past few days, that’s confusing.
I’m sorry if I focused on negative insights, but until fraud events, scenarios, etc exists in the game, we can never have a good Philippine Ragnarok Online, never will it be, even if we wait further and further and further, not until these major problems be solved.
We just hope you hear the cries of your consumers and costumers. Ti’ll here …
Thank you for this. I too am disappointed by these issues. Rest assured that we will do everything in our capacity to sort it out and fix it together with your help and suggestions. Right now, lag is on top of my list to be fixed… followed by the item dupe.
