PS 3 Prices to Drop in April

Are you in the market for a PS3? I suggest you better wait for April if you want to save some moolah.

From the current price of $399 (around P20,000.00), the PS3 is expected to drop to $299 (around P15,000.00) by April of this year. This is according to leading industry analyst Micheal Pachter in recent news at gamedaily.com.

More details after the break.

Most industry pundits would tell you that the PlayStation 3 has been trailing the competition largely because of its hefty price tag. Pachter, however, believes the $399 price point will finally come down to $299 in just a few months. Microsoft is likely to drop its price on the 360 as well.

“Once the PS3 is at a more affordable price point (we expect a cut to $299 in April), we think that sales of that device will once again begin to grow. We expect another cut in price for the Xbox 360, with the feature-laden Pro model likely to come down in price to $249 at or before this year’s E3 show in June. We expect Nintendo to maintain Wii pricing at $249 until the company sees signs that demand is slowing, which means a price cut may not happen until late in the year, if at all,” Pachter said.

it’s a good blu-ray player. but limited games.

Too little, too late. Sony was too arrogant, game developers already jumped ship.

Sony PS3′s game programming architecture is so advanced (As most developers say) that it would take more money and time to make a game for the PS3 than on the 360. That’s why more game developers/publishers are making games for the 360 than on the PS3

The original PS3 models had a 90nm cell processor, later reduced to 65nm. In 2008 IBM announced a 45nm processor, already intended for sony. Lower power consumption, smaller size. For me the cheaper ps3 was expected and will probably be a different model, not the one shown above.

And frankly, say whatever you will about it. Multicore is the future (and already the present). Look up what intel has to say about it. Bluray won the new format wars against xbox360 hd-dvd. PS2 is still strong and selling – there are many games to be released 2009. Not bad for a 9 years console older than the original xbox, that is by the way dead and smelling. While the new one has “Red Ring of Death”, disc scratches and unplayable disc errors. The only thing ps3 hasn’t got yet was a hack to play pirat… backup games. And that’s also impressive, considering. :-)

Yes, I’m a happy owner of a first model ps3 that runs also ps2 and ps1 games, without emulation. It gets somewhat hot and noisy, but that’s something the new model will surely deal with.

Let’s hope the price drop is real.

To be honest , Di ko alam kung bakit pa 360 bnibili nang mga tao , may technical prob na nga eh.

At sa PS3 , 299$??? Micheal Pachter??? LOL
The PS3 is a Blu ray player , a computer , and inside of it is the future of gaming. 299$??? LOL Really??? :)

Microsoft is slowing the Games Industry , To a possible 50gigs of gaming shrinked again to 8gig.

I think that’s great about the price drop (if they are really doing to do that). I’d love to have a PS3, but I also want a PSP. I think I would probably go for the PSP first myself just because it’s portable and I already have a Nintendo Wii that I really love (tennis is fun on that thing). If I didn’t get the PSP I’d probably shoot for a flat screen tv to put in my bedroom so that I could move my Wii in there…….. Wait that didn’t sound right hahahaha!

console price trends are going around sooner than I thought. I thought this will happen sometime Christmas of this year.

Pachter isn’t always right, so let’s see.

    @issai
Limited games? Are you sure? Last time I checked, the library is pretty hefty–for a system that came in a year later than the 360. As for the Wii, well, it doesn’t really count it because it’s full of shovelware.

okay i’ll be specific, limited games that i like. good thing the ps3 i got still has the ps2 emulation. i can return playing my ps2 games that are waaaay cheaper than ps3. with the recession, it’s kinda stupid to buy $60 ps3 games. although oblivion and ninja gaiden is cheap at $30, still doesn’t compare to God of War for $20 or less. for me, it’s about game play, i don’t really care much about graphics. i still play tetris. LOL.

i’m not here to bash any ps3 fanboys, i have a ps3, i’m just disappointed in the list of games out there. especially if the good games out there are games i can’t play in front of my 6 year old kid.

    @Issai

Here’s a suggestion on how to make it cheaper: rent it. Have you ever heard of Gamehopper?

    http://www.gamehopper.com.ph

It’s based in QC, and they deliver games to your house for free. Rental is PHP599 per month (they have other “plans”). If you can finish several games a month, then sulit. ;)

You can rent game for the Wii, Xbox 360, and PS3. The catch? You need a credit card.

If you want to know more kid-friendly PS3 games (or for any console for that matter), have a look at ESRB’s website. As you may have heard, ESRB is like our MTRCB–except that it’s for games.

The main ESRB page has a search function that you can fiddle with. Just choose E for Everyone, then the console of your choice, and voila! Search results would show you a wide selection.

Here are some of the kid-friendly titles I saw for the PS3:

    Hannah Montana: The Movie
    CRYSTAL DEFENDERS
    NOBY NOBY BOY
    OutRun Online Arcade
    Trivial Pursuit
    3 on 3 NHL Arcade
    Ski-Doo Snowmobile Challenge
Hot Shots Golf Fall Fashion Line 3
    Flock!
    Rayman 2: Revolution
    LUMINES Supernova
    Little Big Planet

You’ll find more if you check it out. ;)

    hi mike,

i’m not in the philippines, i’m in california. they do have game rentals here too, but i prefer owning my games especially if i can replay them and share them with my friends. I want little big planet soooo bad! but i’m holding off for now, rayman 2 we have on the wii, and the controls are much fun for the wii. i tried rayman on the ps2 before, not much fun.

if you guys are planning to buy a ps3, don’t go to rockfire (3rd flr v-mall, greenhills)
my neighbor bought a ps3 there and about 5 days later we found out it was already used. they sell used ps3′s and tell their customers that it’s brand new. f’n a**holes.

    Thanks for the tips guys!

I’m sure the readers learned a thing or two.

    Keep it up

  • http://www.twitter.com/shewhowearsred Nikki Mendoza

I will second the warning to stay away from Rockfire. I too bought a PS3, never used it, then found out it was defective (needed a lens replaced). Rockfire wanted me to pay for the lens. When I refused, things got heated. Long story short, CATHY ALBA, the wife of the owner, assaulted me. I have pictures of the bruise I developed from the struggle. Read my full account here: http://www.pinoyps.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=20461&start=15

Again, STAY AWAY FROM ROCKFIRE in Greenhills VMall, 3rd floor.
