Preparing for LIVE 2008

February 7, 2008 · Filed Under Level Up, MMORPG News, LIVE 2007, Online, Events

It’s another year, and again, it’s time to prepare (this early) for another massive online gaming event – Level Up LIVE 2008.

We all know that last year’s event is the biggest so far, and this is not a “claim”, it’s a fact. Thanks to all you loyal LU gamers for making it a huge success.

As early as December of last year, the brand managers, the community managers and I have been preparing for our biggest event for 2008. And yes, Virginia, we plan to outdo ourselves again this year. Time to put on both my Project Manager and Tournament Director caps and see to it that all “lessons learned” last year are noted so that we can provide for solutions this year.

After the break, I’ll share with you some initial ideas that were tossed around…

LIVE 2008 BRAINSTORMING

  • More teams – instead of having just 2 finals teams, I plan to have maybe 4 teams so that there will be semi-finals at the actual event. That way, we get to do all final matches on Sunday
  • Bigger side-events – one of the ideas was to hold whole-day side tournaments for non-tournament attendees. That means, the majority of our guests. More on this in the weeks ahead. Also, the Filmfest and Art Competition has to be reworked so we might give incentives to early submissions.
  • A blog-based LIVE 2008 site – we plan to put this up this month (Feb) and we’re counting on the community to submit content like photos, videos and even posts. The site will try to also “go nationwide” and capture the news of the various regional competitions that we will have
  • Regionals – and speaking of Regionals, some of the games are already planning some provincial sorties. We want every player in the Philippines to participate. The games are nationwide after all.
  • Better prize structure - a review of the prize payout is in order. We hear ya, mga kuya.
  • Improvements on Level Up “City” - there were some other ideas (which I can’t share yet) that will improve upon the various guild booths that we will be providing for those who wish to participate again. This time, we’ll have better rules, mechanics and logistics.

As of this writing, we are trying to finalize a “theme” for the big day.

Suggestion are welcome.

how about more promos/gimiks from advertisers like special discounts or items from sponsors that you can only get when you attend the event. Limited edition items etc etc..

also it would be much better if you allow the bands to play earlier. there were almost no more people watching the bands perform during the first day of the event.

I like the nokia booth from live 2006 :D

Great idea. We’ll consider this. Thanks

Omg. Early preparations like me huh. Comments though GM T. :)

    More Teams
RPC08 should have focus on this. Last year, some gamers didn’t attend the event because they have no player to cheer on since the server they are in didn’t make it to the Final Match. The Tree System should work well here. Honestly without being biased, Ragnarok Online is a game almost every LU Gamer can relate to.

    Blog Based LU Live08 Site
What about a Blog Contest regarding LU08 GMT? *grins*

    Level Up City
Hell yeah, the LU City last year was.. not a city. As a booth organizer I hope to have a more “earlier” notice if the booth plan was accepted or not. We can’t squeeze everything in 2 weeks preparation [LU Live07]. Plus the grading system should be announced, not by just popping there one by one. x_x. And yes, wala pa rin po yung prize namin as the Best Pangya Booth [2000 php].

That’s it for now. And yes at this early I’m already excited about this year’s Live. /no1

i think it’s more interesting nga if you have more teams competing there.. i remember nung RPC ‘06 ang daming guilds yun kasali dun (although masyadong nakakaubos ng time). ‘yung last year naman, karamihan during the 2nd day na lang pumunta, kasi yun lang yung date na naka set yung finals for RPC, and halos walang representations from the other servers.. just my opinion..

@@Blue: exactly my point. Am happy that you agree.

    comment also regarding lu merchandise,
why not have a bigger display area and please try not to package all of the stuff. some of those that are packaged are not usable by the buyer.

There were plenty of freebies last year and I was surprised. XD I just hope that the redemption process would be much much better this time around.

Maybe you can also rearrange the floor plan a bit and have more chairs. It’s hard to find a place to stay and most attendees had to sit on the floor (which is inconvenient especially for girls).

And yeah, we hope you could extend the match-ups to pre-finals, if not the finals so that people would be encouraged to come.

With regard to LU City, sana this year there’d be lots of decorated booths again. Maybe you can also include a formal “tambayan” where players can drop by an official booth for the game that they’re playing and maybe get to know fellow players or something. Like maybe we can have a tagboard/shoutbox.

More side events narin like PvP for all games. It encourages people to stay, saka para hindi rin masyado mahaba yung pila sa isang laro. Haha.

It’d also be fun to see you cosplay (full outfit) this year GMT. *wink*
