Play Games Using your Mind

This is THE future of gaming, folks.

What you’re looking at is the The Emotiv EPOC headset - the first Brain Computer Interface (BCI) device. And the company that has developed it claims that they have made breakthroughs in thought control.

According to a news report by CNN, “The EPOC detects and processes real time brain activity patterns (small voltage changes in the brain caused by the firing of neurons) using a device that measures electric activity in the brain. In total, it picks up over 30 different expressions, emotions and actions.”

Meanwhile, Tan Le, President and co-founder of Emotiv Systems said that “Being able to control a computer with your mind is the ultimate quest of human-machine interaction. When integrated into games, virtual worlds and other simulated environments, this technology will have a profound impact on the user’s experience”.

Maybe so. But I’ve seen the clunky attempts at putting 3D or “big screens” into glasses and I’m not impressed. But the EPOC may be scratching at the boundaries of science fiction.

Perhaps it’s a little too early to let our minds do the playing.

I still prefer the mouse and keyboard (or d-pad) any time of day.

yea and my mom would freak out about it, i can almost hear her say that it will cause damage to my brain. Sad. But i don’t know, I don’t wanna use a “helmet” while playing. It will kinda… get in the way… while playing.

I want a full environment controller/body suit. I don’t get enough exercise as it is.

I want what Fatman wants - some way to control the game using physical movement. Maybe not a body suit but an infrared grid that detects changes in my body position. Something that would probably be for the Nintendo’s future console, the Wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii.
