Perfect World: Initial Impressions

Now that the beta for Perfect World has begun, I’d like to ask each of you Close Beta testers about your initial impressions and reactions to the game.

Do comment below and talk about your first few minutes in PW. I’ve written some topic guidelines to help you get started.

Don’t be shy. I’m sure someone will find helpful tips about the game here. Of course, the forums are still there but I’d like our little band of bloggers and gmtristan.com readers to bond and share knowledge.

  • Installing
  • getting inside the game
  • Creating your character – was the customization ok? Did they impress you? What did you do?
  • controls – were the controls intuitive? did the WASD help?
  • graphics. Are they good?
  • Quests – did you find it easy doing the quests? (TIP: just follow the yellow arrow)
  • Gameplay – do you like the rules system? How about the loot system?
  • Maps
  • Monsters
  • Builds
  • Terrain

There are more topics out there. This is only limited by your imagination. Let’s try to be detailed as possible so that you CBT testers can share to the others your initial experience about this year’s hottest game!

    Theres no rush dude, there’ll be a wipe in the end anyway right? XD I used my friend’s account and so..

    Damn! So many NPC’s and Quests, so little time! Hehe The character creation’s cool, just like the Sims2 but much better. I’m currently busy getting lost in it’s huge world. And there’s a stuck turtle under the east bridge of Feather City who regenerates like there’s no tomorrow! Hahaha! (Maybe its part of preventing players from sniping underwater monsters from land, but the turtle IS stuck.)

    And dont bother flying atop rooftops and sniping nearby monsters, they also just regenerate like mad until you go down and fight it fairly. :)

    GM, did the participats of the Q&A get their CB accounts already? Or are all the CB account’s been given away already? Is there hope for me and my friends tomorrow?

    ..and the some of the english is bad. But i think that’ll be fixed in later patches. Gotta sleep now, and hope for an account tomorrow. :p

    hmmm….the game is good…cute characters.But…there’s always a but right now though…(hehe…this is for dada Joel who had given up his account to me out of love).

    1. when it comes to the map…the terrain is too big,nakakahilo na paikot-ikot. Sometimes can’t even find the monsters as required for a quest.

    2. No indications of houses, halls especially those that are required for the quest(e.g, the quest about the drunken something..finding a certain Hall).

    3. Maayos din naman yata yung npc conversations, sana naman hehehe kasi nakakahilo.

    4.Quest…sometimes it’s hard to find the npc even though my indications na up which where they are.

    5. Feel ko archers ngaun better sila especially they can fly and dagdag sa range attacks nila.

    So far…after playing 9 hours(gosh!wala pa sleep)level 10 palang inabot ko.:( oh well…sabi nga dada Joel patience is a virtue).Kuya Mon, may guide po ba sa build nya? where can i find it po? Thanks! Have a good day!

    Another one nga pala po…yung skills parang may problem. I dunno if there’s a quest for a Wuxhia skill.Have a problem activating it as of now.

    ok its my turn, 30-60mins experience:

    Installing:
    i didn’t have problem about this, once the downloading process was finish i install it without errors

    getting inside the game:
    oh i have a problem with this but no worries its because i didn’t explore first the ‘game setting’
    and big problem is getting out of the game, i dont know how to logout/exit the game
    i cannot ‘normal’ chat so i pm someone but they dont know how to logout also
    i just used ‘windows task manager’ to end the game
    and then i enter again but i check first the setting then i click the ‘recommend’ button then
    “in-game window resolution must be lower than current desktop resolution!”
    so i changed it and off i go again to Perfect World
    without knowing how to logout again
    oh by the way i can ‘normal chat’ the second time i login

    Creating your character – was the customization ok? Did they impress you? What did you do?
    oh it took me a long time to do this one
    some part of it i cannot see any difference or maybe i have blurry eyes but all in all its good

    controls – were the controls intuitive? did the WASD help?
    gesh control, kinda hard coz im used of RF Online’s control and using ‘W A D S’ for movements then Q for quest is kinda messy because i want to press ‘W’ sometimes i accidentally click ‘Q’ or ‘E’ then a window will pop-up in my screen
    i just need to get used to it i guess or else it will cause me problems even character death

    graphics. Are they good?
    fair enough, kinda remind me of RF Online, rough texture maybe because of my settings

    Quests – did you find it easy doing the quests? (TIP: just follow the yellow arrow)
    i only did 1quest so i cannot answer this right know that goes to gameplay, Maps, Monsters, Builds, Terrain etc.

    oh i want to indicate to improve the interface,
    some of them are overlapping, lampas na o hindi na kasya pangit tuloy tingnan right?
    plus is Fa Shih – is this right, not Fa Shi?

    Ung paglogout eh click mo ung lower right na icon. Tapos may lalabas na menu. Andun ung logout.

    Hehe eto lang, pag may nakita kang ibang char na tumatalon, feeling mo nanonood ka ng chinese movie. Ung mga fight scenes sa ere. Parang ganon eh hahaha.

    @Joyce: if you’re talking about the lvl 9 skills there are quests that must first be accomplished before you can buy those skills. check your quest log. hope that helped. ^^

    -yes, happend to me too. i was in a ‘window mode’ then switch to ‘full window mode’ i change it inside the game there is a set-up there where you can modify your settings so i decided to switch to full screen and then after it has been executed i cannot anymore click the game.you can still use keyboards but when i use the mouse it just go to desktop, its like its not clicking anything inside the game.

    kaingit nman kayo… this is my 1st time na hirap kumuha ng cbt account geeshh.. twice na akong bumalik sa internet shop na naka enlist (pw-cafe) wala pa rin daw.
    hirap talaga pag asa province. sa totoo lang im kinda disappointed na..

    Nice feeedback!

    In the graphics options, yes it does have some bugs. Sometimes if you change it, it will automatically minimize. If that happens. Quit or restart your PC and log in again.

    Re the quests, use the “track quests” so that you’ll know how many items you got. And yes, the YELLOW ARROW is your best friend, okies?

    * Installing

    installing was problematic at first, until i turned off spybot. after i installd it the first time, a file was corrupt. uninstall and install again. got thru.

    * getting inside the game

    inside is easy. even for a 128 vidcard and 256 ram.

    * Creating your character

    i like customization, but im a lzy bastrd. so i chose one of the templates.

    * controls

    typical wow controls that i got used to in the past few weeks. the only diff is pw uses left click often while wow uses the right click often

    * graphics

    graphics? im a retro gamer… games no need graphics

    * Quests

    quests are easy and similar to wow. not to mention coords make it even more simpler

    * Gameplay

    me likey… quests and stuff. although the pack gets packed (no pun intended) in a few minutes

    * Maps

    small compared to wow

    * Monsters

    nice new monsters.

    * Builds

    builds? what builds? im just a measly lvl 5

    * Terrain

    terrain is even better than wow in my opinion. made even better with the jump and fly command if you ask me.

    Installing
    -I downloaded 4 files, and i think Setup.exe was corrupted, so I decided to download it again. During the process, I played PW in a cafe with CBT accounts, and they gave me one. hehe.

    getting inside the game
    -The game is awesome! I really love it. :D

    Creating your character
    -Yes, it’s quite okay. But I didn’t spend much time on this because of getting too excited to play. Haha.

    Controls
    -typical controls which I’m used to. Hindi na ako nahirapan mangapa sa controls.

    graphics.
    -i played tons of games, hindi naman ako pihikan sa graphics. Though I love 3Ds.

    Quests
    -maraming quest, as in sunod sunod. but it’s okay. i am being rewarded after naman eh. haha. I love that yellow arrow, hindi talaga ako maliligaw. hihi

    Gameplay
    -hmmm.. wala po bang auto loot? haha tamad magloots. just incase kasi po na agawan. (just thought)

    Maps
    -quite expanded! but the ability to fly and jump makes it more interesting.

    Monsters
    -new monsters (monster names)

    Builds
    -still in level 4. I only got 2hrs to play, kasi magsasara narin ang cafe. =(

    i just hope i can play it here at home. currently downloading the Setup.exe. Hopefully there are no more errors.

    and the summersault wasnt necessarily be there… They just put it for FUN purposes and for character interaction. XD

    here are some honest harsh initial comments/bugs:

    - bad translation. what happened? it reeks of online translator grammar. NPC’s dont “feel” like real people because they use inappropriate words, obviously the translator has no sense of nuances in the english language. this destroys the immersion as far as storyline and quests go. also real people have unique characters, NPC’s atm all speak like something between a zombie yoda and the terminator. i suggest maybe not translating it word for word, but get the context of the message and create the english translation in a more widely-used and acceptable manner.

    - font sizes too friggin big. i know the space is intended for chinese characters so the fonts are all too crowded and out of place, more often than not cut too short so maybe setting the type lower would do some good. also i suggest that you do not stick to the direct translations but come up with smarter shorter words that would fit the space and convey the same meaning at the same time. for example “Window Settings” can be just “Windowed” so it would fit the alloted space.

    - punctuations not showing. they are still probably in some different encoding format

    -in the system settings in the patcher/splashscreen, i think “Map Alignment” is actually “Texture Resolution”; low gives you ugly pixellated textures and the high setting gives your the crisper ones. i’m still trying to figure out what “spatial distortion” is but i’m going to assume it’s actually anistrophic settings but it’s likely that i am wrong.

    - sometimes changing the graphic options WILL ERASE your macroed skills. but i n the chinese version they fixed this in the latest patch so i think, same will apply here.

    - the name for the panda and wolf models are interchanged

    as for the gameplay, i think the WASD is just there for those who want it but it actually offers no real tactical advantage. spells will actually make the character face the opponent automatically, so there is no point to using WASD aside from familiarity.

    the best points i see in this game so far is character creation and the water shaders.

    Logging out:

    Look at the lower right corner of the screen. If the came controls are minimized there would be an arrow that will allow you to expand it. To log out you click the right-most button of that array, which will cause another array to appear on top of it. Game exit is the right-most button in that array, exit to character selection is the second to the last option.

    Pop-up help is your friend. All these commands have pop-up help windows.

    Normal chat is as simple as pressing and typing the words in the chat bar same as Tantra and Khan and multitude of other games.

    Toolbars can be dragged, expanded, and re-arranged to your preferece.

    I’ll say it again:

    Armors have no specialization.

    I’m OC when it comes to my stat. All of the armors have STR requirements which should be allocated to my INT instead (I’m a magic-based Yao Jing).

    Elow, i just played PW for the past 90 minutes or so, well i think the map was good, feels so real, so real that u dont want to walk hahaha. i love the under water sceneries.

    only problem is that,finding monster, i went from level 1 to 4 monster, after taking a short walk to find more monsters, i found lvl 40 and 42 monster, hahaha!
