Online Games Can Make You a Better Manager
The great “big blue”, IBM, has just released details on a recent study which proves that online games can be beneficial in developing corporate management skills.
Ok, boss.. don’t bug me, it’s 3X today!
From a post at Guardian Unlimited, IBM has just sent an email from their Corporate Communications which states that videogmaes “help people become better corporate leaders…”

“According to new IBM research which looked at technology, business and societal trends and issues, online videogames help people become better corporate leaders by fostering skills related to collaboration, self-organisation, risk-taking, openness, influence, and communications.”
And that’s not all:
“Nearly half of gamers polled believe that game-playing has improved their real-world leadership capabilities. Three-quarters believe that the tools used in games to collaborate and connect can be applied to enhance leadership effectiveness for the globally integrated enterprise. That’s because massively multiplayer online games enable thousands of players to interact, compete and collaborate with one another in real time. Players must make rapid-fire decisions based on multiple and constantly shifting inputs. Invariably, certain individuals emerge to set direction and shape the success of others. What’s more, leadership is often temporal, quickly shifting from one person to another as the course of action dictates.”
Hmmm… perhaps all this orc bashing, kill stealing and loot taking does have its benefits after all.
But to a certain extent quick decisions, leadership and attention to detail can bring you success in your career. I can say that things are tough (but fun) here in our office. There’s never a dull moment. And yeah, some people get paid to play… isn’t that incentive enough?
But don’t tell your boss if he or she catches you leveling up your character or going to a party quest that GM Tristan told you that it’s good for your job, ok?
Have a nice weekend to all!

Sir Mon, this article is a great addition to my personal list of compiled articles showing the benefits of video games. I usually present these articles to heads of I-Cafe associations in my area whenever they are threatened by local ordinances. Is there a study out there about the correlation of playing video games with being good at… something that rhymed with text?

I really think that there are many benefits from playing video games.. Many can learn how to think of strategies or tactics for problems that can be compared to problems we face in the real life… And MMORPGs also have benefits, it lets online gamers socialize and meet new friends and they feel that they are like in the real world…
