When I heard this over TV, I thought this recall was sparked by a report of certain Nokia owner (here in the Philippines) that her batteries suddenly overheated and almost burned her house. Well, although not entirely due to that bit of news, it has something to do with it.
In an official statement, leading cellphone maker Nokia announced that it will recall batteries of the BL-5C series since they “identified that in very rare cases the affected batteries could potentially experience over heating initiated by a short circuit while charging, causing the battery to dislodge. Nokia is working closely with relevant local authorities to investigate this situation.”

But not all BL-5C batteries are subject for recall. The advisory “applies only to the 46 million batteries manufactured by Matsushita between December 2005 and November 2006. There have been approximately 100 incidents of over heating reported globally. No serious injuries or property damage have been reported.”
Want to know what phone models are affected? (could be your phone) and how to go about replacing it?
That info after the jump

“Nokia” and “BL-5C” are printed on the front of the battery. On the back of the battery, the Nokia mark appears at the top, and the battery identification number (consisting of 26 characters) is found at the bottom. If the battery identification number does not contain 26 characters, it is not subject to this product advisory.
You have to go to this page and enter the 26-digit character and then follow the instructions/process. Egad! My phone is affected…
If your battery is FAKE, forget it. They don’t (obviously) cover that.

Holy fucknuts, Batmon! That’s my old phone! Gotta go see how it’s doing…
Whew! Close call… The battery isn’t of the Matsushita series…
that’s what i was talking before….
I hope Nokia fixes this. If they don’t, the competitors like Sony and Motorola would happily go for the kill and grab the spoils
Cheers,
GM T
Nokia accessories are “traditionally” prone to wear and tear easily. Now even their batteries are in question… If only Samsung and Ericsson will release killer designs, perhaps Nokia will be a goner.
NOKIA DISCONNECTING PEOPLE!!! tsk tsk! im a victim also! kala ko sadyang nasira lng talaga ang batt ko pero nung tiningnan ko yung indentification number!!! WTF! pareho!
