There’s very little information about the up and coming title co-developed by Microsoft and Cryptic Studios.
There’s a short blurb about it at the Cryptic Studios website. The wikipedia entry also states that the game is being developed for both the XBox 360 and PC/Windows Vista (of course, it’s Microsoft). Release date is a “To Be Announced” 2008.
Perhaps Mr. Gates wants to have something to augment the huge windfall of Halo 3.
Here’s a teaser-trailer of the game (just characters, NO gameplay footage)
Can you name all the Marvel characters that you see?
The complete list after the jump
The visible characters in the trailer are Apocalypse, Cable, Captain America, Cyclops, Daredevil, Doctor Doom, Doctor Octopus, Nick Fury, Galactus, the Hulk, Magneto, Nightcrawler, the Punisher, Quicksilver, a Sentinel, Spider-Man, the Thing, Uatu, Wolverine and Ant-man.

[...] Check it out! While looking through the blogosphere we stumbled on an interesting post today.Here’s a quick excerptTheres very little information about the up and coming title co-developed by Microsoft and Cryptic Studios. So, after suing City of Heroes, also published by Cryptic Studios, Marvel decides to “team up” with them. I hope the suit wasn’t an attempt to “muscle-in” on the City of Heroes.
Super-Hero genre games are a challenge to market. Whereas wholly original fantasy and sci-fi games make the players the stars of the game, super-hero and established franchises (Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, etc.) have other characters who are in the lead roles. Players end up being in the background of these legendary characters or they play the roles of the heroes directly, becoming Spider-Man, the Punisher or Spongebob Squarepants.
Let’s face it, we don’t want to play Robin to these Batmen. Nor do we want to be in a game where we are one of a 100,000 Wolverine clones. We want to be the unique heroes and heroines of the virtual movie house that MMORPGs are to us. The challenge is how to retain the flavor of the Marvel Universe without focusing too much on its established denizens. City of Heroes pulled that off very well because their hero NPCs are unknowns. When it comes to Marvel Comics though, the hero defines the milieu and the setting.
This will be interesting to see…
cguro gagawin kang rookie hero d2, create ur own style tapos ung mga kilalang heroes eh NPC cguro or Playable NPC’s like in GE? then ung mga kilalang villains un ung mga boss
Agree. That’s the same reason Star Wars Galaxies took a nosedive!
Keen on seeing what these guys come up for Marvel Online. Maybe I can use my mutant business powers and get a beta account?
agreed w/ friction. i would like to create my own character to learn, and fight side-by-side with current heroes, or an option to band together with other new super-heroes (other players) kind of like a young new super-power team (kind of like the New Warriors from Marvel Civil War, except without the dying
)
