A live-action role-playing game called TerraDrive Live is attempting to make a world record by having the most number of live participants on a single venue.
The game, which they coined Massively Multiplayer Live Action Role Playing Game,” or MMLARPG, will attempt to break into the Guiness record books during the Penny Arcade Expo (or PAX) 2007 event.
The PAX will be on held on August 24 to 26 at Seattle.
ABOUT THE GAME
terra is a “lifestyle-invading” game; play is not restricted to a specific time interval, but is integrated into the players’ everyday activities (in the case of PAX, during a three day convention). TerraDrive Live players are referred to as Mercs and must find other players to defeat in combat. Mercs are identified by the Life Tokens they wear in their convention badge holder. When two players identify each other and agree to combat, they agree to wager an equal number of life tokens, then “fight” each other with three throws of rock paper scissors. ”
In an interview at arstechnica, Tony Hellmann, the CEO of Technomancer Press (creators of TerraDrive) said “We want to immerse people in an environment where anyone could be an enemy, and you don’t know who in the crowd wants to kill you… or help you,” Hellman explained. “PAX is a community. People belong to something bigger than themselves there, me included. I’d like TerraDrive Live to become something that people associate with PAX… the expo that showcases games and is a game.”
I’ll see if I can get updates and photos on this come event day. Hope they get a world record
