While doing some blog-hopping (one of my stress-busters after office work), I came upon Horonaim’s blog. And hell yeah, I haven’t been to that part of the blogosphere lately. And his post on Gamers Need To Read caught my fancy.
It’s still just 1:00AM and I decide to give gmtristan.com one more post about online games (Perfect World in this instance) before shut-eye… with inspiration (and due credit of course to the one of the pillars of “Online Gaming Forum Adminstration” – Horonaim).
Excerpts from his post and my opinions up next…
“people asking me what to do with certain quests when the quest description clearly states what needs to be done. There are very few quests that do not have the coordinates for the NPC that you need to talk to. So far I only count 2 such quests.”
Sometimes, I am guilty of this (boo! hiss! GM T, you’re a slob!!! Wakoko). But you can always go back to your quest then READ C-A-R-E-F-U-L-L-Y
Saves you the braincells, believe me.
“H- people ask me where X monster is. The quest description gives you a general idea of where the monster should be. Hunt for them! I also go through these quests and I bust my ass looking for these monsters. That’s part of the challenge people!”
Amen. Why do we always want to be given the silver spoon? Well, damnit! There is NO SPOON (*insert “Gun-Fu” action scene here). Seriously, not all games come with a manual – yet (yeah… we’re doing one for PW soon, okay?) and for some; part of the fun is in the discovery. If you want to be given all the info, go find yourself a PS2 game and go to gamefaqs.com for the walkthrough (whew… load off my chest).
“If gamers could only learn how to read, then the PMs I get in game would be the ones greeting me, those wishing me a nice day, bug reports, name violations, etc. In short I’d be getting community messages and the reports that matter.”
And mods, GMs, Brand Managers, Community Managers, Level Up Sales Executives, (etc. etc.) DO NOT KNOW ALL the answers (we know some, but not ALL), if we did, we’d be billionaires and just have a consultancy business or do lotto. Believe it, we’re human too.
Thanks for the nice post, Horonaim.
Now where’s that stupid spoon?!?!?
I’m eating cereal…

well, asking makes life a lot easier. haha im such a slob.
I have nothing about asking. It’s just that some people could’ve saved someone the trouble just by reading. I mean, case in point is the sheer number of people calling the office or filing a ticket to ask for the mechanics of the server merge – when it’s already posted at all the site(s) months back.
yun lang…
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t HATE people who ask… if the questions warrant answers…
Peace!
alot of people there just want to level fast and
dont even have time to read the quest log sigh
where are your spirit of ‘adventure’
do you really play just to gain fame for having the highest level and not by your ‘knowledge/IQ’ about the game?
if its really not necessary, dont ask silly questions
it doesn’t hurt to use your brain sometimes to think and analyze the quest
anyway to PW Team, you really done a nice work
just really need to improve the translations much better to improve the game
cya around
haaai,, If only game publishers would keep their promise…
agree’s at haaai.. san na cbt account ko?
Isn’t open beta starting first week of June anyway? Why bother asking for a CBT account.
classes starting ? duh
reviews before open beta?
And are you so sure that open beta is this june?
Hmmm… =)) People can be such newbs, which is why cafe people should be nice at the least to them so they don’t bother other people.
LUG publish too many game but they cannot manage it right… they launch PW first b4 EP2 or rf (the last patch of RF is 6months ago) the man power of LUG is not enough too sustain the need of its game furthermore its hardware is not suffiecient for them too publish such too many games
