Farmville is Facebook’s top game. With more fans than Michael Jackson and more players than ANY game on the planet! Now, that’s a fact. And my wife’s a confirmed addict.
With over 70M active users monthly, and around 20M fans… those are numbers that are far larger than World of Warcraft. With the recent acquisition of Playfish(developers of Pet Society and Restaurant City) by EA games for $400M, this just goes to prove that, like what I predicted 2 years ago, social gaming WILL be the wave/trend of the future. Companies that position themselves to ride this wave will reap millions!
But I digress.
So, how much does FarmVille make?
Let me digress a bit more.
First, let’s look at the top 10 games / apps in Facebook today. (via AppData)

MAU means “Monthly Active Unique”. And of course, not all of them are paying. The game is using the F2P (Free-to-Play) business model. You can continue to play indefinitely for free or, should you elect, get more coins/cash online.
Here’s how they make money…

A player can either get farm cash to buy special items or Farm Coins.
Let’s compute that only 5% of Farmville’s 70M+ users do actually pay. That’s around 3.8M users worldwide. Using the payment option above, let’s say that each has a monthly ARPU (Average Revenue Per User) of just $10.
So, how much does Farmville make?
around 38 MILLION US DOLLARS a month (or in PHP 1.8 BILLION)
Let’s break that up
They make
- USD 1.2M a day (PHP 60M)
- USD 8.8M in a week (PHP 425M)
- USD 52,000 in an hour (PHP 2.5M)
Whoa!
So, who says social gaming is small fry?
Think again.
Zynga is laughing all the way to the bank. In fact, Farmville will be ported to the MSN network pretty soon.
Got a Facebook account? Be my fan. Thank you. Gotta go, my wife’s gonna use the desktop to harvest.
