Get Rich Quick

The title above either attracts or repels.

Let’s put this into the context of games. At first, broken games or MMORPGs that offer you a get-rich-quick scheme or a level-fast-now scheme attract players like bees to pollen. But most are doomed to fail.

The average player always sees the false value of a game where you can bot and just level up at the fastest possible time, acquire all the gold by duping and kill anyone with a single hit. Pinoys, by nature, hate the grind. Compared to our other Asian brothers, we just don’t have enough patience. We want the quick and dirty, level-me-now-to-max mentality.

On the onset, this looks like a good thing. You can bot or buy a stupid third party program and then just take a nap and watch your character get all powerful.

But in the end, is that a good thing? To some greedy players, it is. But where’s the satisfaction in that? There can’t be a giant in a land of giants. If everyone in the NBA plays like Michael Jordan, it would be boring. Let’s face it, some are destined for greatness and some will just fare like all the rest – the law of averages.

That’s something very difficult to control. If the game designers wanted ALL their players to be powerful, what’s the use of drop ratios, rarity, expensive items and the rest to a world filled with cheaters, hackers and dupers? Wouldn’t it be silly to just give everyone max levels, full stats and all the powerful items?

You cannot see the value of a million dollars if everyone in the planet is a millionaire. The value of something rare or powerful is lost when it simply isn’t rare or powerful anymore… hell, everyone and his brother has one! Darn it!

Where am I getting at?

A game is not challenging when unfair practices or unfair environments exist. Games are meant to challenge and drive the competitive sprit of the player to new heights. There will be good players and there will always be noobs. We can’t be all equal since everyone plays at their own pace and with their own style and strategies.

MMORPGs are true dopplegangers of the real world. Everyone wants the easy way out.

Get rich quick.

Reminded me of the shiat network marketing scams that I joined.

Don’t be a fool. Stay out of it while you still can.

yeah.. the get rich quick mentality is really grating. On MMOs, most players don’t want to bother by play tons of hours leveling up and want to do “instantly.” Sure.. grinding seems like a waste of time, but if you think that playing to gain a level is a waste of time, why play at all?

Botters, cheaters, etc always use the same excuse. “I don’t want to waste time leveling up.” The irony is, if you don’t play, how the hell are you going to progress in game w/o cheating?

I.E. the game from the “other” MMO publisher in the Phil just experienced a massive drop in player activity. Why? Because the bot that connects to their servers is no longer free and 95% of botters don’t want to shell out cash because they feel it’s not worth it. Ironic and dumb.

I’m beginning to think that enforcing Iron Clad rules against cheaters in whatever form should be implemented. That way the experience for other players won’t be ruined by some conniving player/person aiming for a quick buck.
