It’s been a long time since I featured a Gamer Babe…

And this time, it’s someone special - Diwa Fernandez, a.k.a the “Poetess” graces gmtristan.com for the first time. Diwa (or “Diws” as I fondly call her) used to work for us (and under me) in Level Up. She’s a truly talented girl (creative, artistic and yes… pretty too). She loved (and still is) active in the community side of MMORPGs.

Interview with The Poetess

GM T: Tell me something about yourself?
Diwa: I am a web designer working in a corporate company somewhere in Ortigas, Pasig City. Its been my passion making websites for almost 10 years. I do illustrations, a bit of photography and writing as hobbies to name a few. My character in RF Online is Neoma in the Bellato Altrax.

GM T: Wow! Can you redesign gmtristan.com? Just kidding… anyways, how did you get into gaming and online gaming?
Diwa: When I was in highschool, I only played video games when I had the time. Later in college, it was my brother’s influence who first showed me how to play Dungeons and Dragons table top and Magic The Gatheringâ„¢. I met people in college who became true friends and they were also into gaming. They were the ones who introduced me networking games like counter strike, war craft and starcraft. Although, it never really got me interested and after college, I focused on my career.

Around 2004, some of my friends in ‘Culture Crash Comics’ introduced me to Ragnarok Online. That’s it - I got hooked on online games!!!

GM T: What online games do you play? Why do you like it?
Diwa: I played so many games already like Ragnarok Online, MU Online, Pangya, ROSE, Flyff, Perfect World and Rising Force Online. Not all of those games made me stay for so long, except Ragnarok and RF because I could really ‘role-play’ my characters.

Right now, I’m really addicted to RF Online. I really like the game because of its 24/7 player vs player (PVP). Aside from the dynamics of the game and its graphics, I like interacting with some of the Bellato in Altrax.

GM T: What’s the best reason that you got into MMORPGs?
Diwa: The best and most important reason is the role-playing and the “connection”. What I mean by connection is the flow between me and the other players. If the community is bad, you won’t find me interacting with them or staying within that game for so long. I like to role-play most of the time because I want to write my character’s adventures. This also helps me expand my creative ideas on writing aside from that, that’s where I can release my frustrations from work. Haha.

GM T: What do your non-gamer female friends tell you when they find out that you game?
Diwa: My non-gamer female friends? I only have a few of them and we don’t usually talk about my gaming addiction when I hang out with them. They don’t want me to getting started on talking about games because they would never understand my point of view. Instead, they’d just ask me if I feed myself right and tell me to get some sleep when they know I’m playing too much.

GM T: What’s your most unforgettable moment ingame?
Diwa: There are a lot of good moments that I have. Maybe, if it was not for my friend Bea in Ragnarok I wouldn’t have known the fun side of PVP, sieges and meet new friends.

My recent and best moment yet in RF was the time me and my boyfriend was farming in Ether around two in the morning when a pack of Accretians tried to kill us. It took more than an hour for them to even drive us away from that area. I only died once when there was a terrible lag. (LOL)

GM T: Do you have any advice or tips for girls out there who want to try gaming?
Diwa: Stay away from ‘karir mode’ players! Haha! But seriously, always try to find the game that will suit your taste and read forums or online help for tips.

GM T: Final words for your friends, guildmates or fans?
Diwa: To my friends from Ragnarok, thank you for being there and thank you for staying as my friends up to now. For my guildmates, hmm… I’m not going to be ‘emo’ but I will say thank you for giving my the chance to have a guild with such loyalty and trust. Haylabsjoo!

Fans? Do I even have one? Haha!

A support character that can kill: like the Paladin, Champion, Creator and Professor in Ragnarok;  and then there’s the Soul Chandra in RF.
Favorite Skill:
Judicious Brain. Without it, I would not be able to annoy my enemies.
Favorite Monster:
Chotty. Those cute Jyles you see in Ether.
Favorite map or area:
Solus Settlement. You’ll find me anti-raiding most of the time when I’m bored in leveling.
Favorite Weapon:
+4 Stong Intense Sickle Staff
Cutest headgear for you and why?
Unfortunately there’s no cute head gear in RF but in Ragnarok, I love the Boy’s Cap.
