Community Q and A Part 1

As promised, here’s the first video answer to my Community Q&A blog contest. To debut things, GM Cydie will answer a question about RF hacks and cheats. Congrats to the winners btw!

The question is from Paul of Bulacan playing RF Online. His character name is PaulCristophe from Altrax and a member of the Brethren guild. And he asks: Is there any way to counter CE and Other 3rd party program hacks on RF Online aside from banning people? Why can’t level up ask permission from the CCR team to tamper with the games parameters?

GM Cydie answers this below…

Hmm well the proliferation of botting and hacking (3rd party software, not actually hacking the server.. only n00bs don’t know the diff but..) highly depends on the community. If you have a bunch of people who thinks that botting is actually “Good” in the sense that it’s helping them level up instead of ruining what makes the game sell (ergo the community) then you’ll likely to end up with a game world that’s inhabited by bots and bots alone.

Now if that community is actively keen on keeping such activity out of the game world, then you’re assured that the community/ies live on and the game becomes a much more enjoyable experience. One of the reasons Wow, the biggest MMO in the market is still getting bigger. The community actively does it’s part although you can be sure that many detractors wouldn’t want that harmony.

You’re right. That’s our goal. Of course, community cooperation is always integral.

    Thanks for the nice insight.

Truthfully I think it’s impossible to create a game that cannot be hacked or abused with by a 3rd party program. Those who think otherwise are completely wrong.

It is virtually impossible to create a perfect bug less game. Countering all those abuses are also hard. There are a few ways though to stop people from abusing “some” of the things they abuse but a lot more usually than not it would result in players having some kind of inconvenience too. Perhaps that is really the reason why they (LU) just choose to ban players instead.

Also personally I think tampering with the game parameters will just mess up the game more that it can fix it (Yeah, that’s what usually happens when people tamper with codes that they did not create since codes usually are connected to each other thus changing something may usually mean you have to change a LOT else you will cause program instability , new bugs, errors, malfunctions, crash etc. of course you may be able to fix things too ^_^).

Surely though the people in LU are always doing their best about these matters ^_^ let’s cheer them up!

    Peace Out ^_^
