iBlog 7: Your Blog and Facebook

First I’d like to thank all the organizers of iBlog 7 for a successful event. Props to Janette Toral for letting me be a part of this year’s iBlog.

It was nice to meet with old and new bloggers alike and to reconnect with my blogging friends. Anyways, as a follow-up of my talk, I’d like to share with you some key points (for the benefit of those who were not able to attend)…

Miss Turkey Markets Turkey Burgers

Ok. Ok… First, let me admit that the Justin Bieber post was all April Fool’s. Sorry if I fooled some of you.

That being said, the video that will follow is NOT April Fool’s. It’s a great tie-up by Carl’s Jr and Men’s Health and the editors of ”Eat This, Not That! to promote their turkey burger. To get the job done, they hired the real Miss Turkey, Gizem Memiç. The result, an ohh-summm TVC spot.

Don’t Tell Your Prospective Customers to JUST Find You On Facebook

Just want to get this out of the way. And rant. Yes, rant.

The couple of weeks, I was watching some TV commercials and noticed that a lot of brands have started to adopt social media into their marketing mix. Now, that’s a GOOD thing. More often than not, these included having their own presence in Facebook (another good thing).

But what dissed me off is when the TV “end tag” simply tells the prospective customers to “FIND US ON FACEBOOK”.

Duh?!?

Facebook Philippines Stats

If you’re a marketer and would like to know more about Social Media and how to put your brand online, one of the best places to start is Facebook. Facebook is Earth’s largest social media site and, many say, is the best in terms of creating hype, promoting your brand and giving marketers and individuals tools on how to best leverage its growing popularity.

Before you take that social media marketing plunge, it’s best to test the waters first. Knowing key metrics of Facebook usage in the Philippines will surely give you an advantage vis-a-vis those who claim to be “know-it-alls” in social media and those jumping on the bandwagon blind as bats.

All of the figures here are public data and I’m just aggregating and expounding on it, folks.

Social Gaming, MMO up. PC and Console Down. US 2010 Gaming Industry Reports

Despite being slightly lower (-2%) from 2009 figures, the US video game industry racked in a whooping $24.7 Billion for the past year, 2010.

Social gaming and the MMORPG category were the clear winners, while PC and Console games were on the losing end as compared to 2009. Sales figures were just software and did not include hardware.

Apple Gadgets: The Pinoy Marketer’s Choice As Promo Prizes

Even I am guilty of the above. Lols.

Look everywhere, you’ll see a brand or company giving away an iPad, an iPhone or an iTouch for a promo or contest. Facebook is ripe with such ads. It’s no secret – the iPad, if statistics prove me right, is the default prize for most promos and contest.

I went around the mall last night and I saw around 4 posters with iPads as prizes. One hardware store is giving away iPads, a cigarette brand is giving away 100++ iPads if I’m not mistaken… and a whole lot similar marketing harps.

The Last Advertising Agency On Earth

Thanks to colleague and fellow marketer, Jeff Paulino for sharing this great video on his Facebook page.

As a professional marketer, this video really opened up some doors for me, which I’d like to also share to my fellow marketing practitioners. The lessons learned from this video can mean the difference between an awesome campaign (which directly translates to measured results) and a mediocre one.

First, watch the video and then hit jump below for some of my personal notes.

LIVE 2010 Behind The Scenes

Gearing up for LIVE is a HUGE undertaking. It requires great coordination, millions of Moolah (obviously), and a great team. A lot of people pitched in to make this year’s event totally awesome and we here at Level Up! are forever grateful.

Make Things Easy To Share

I don’t have a marketing or a social media blog and I don’t claim to be an expert. But what I will tell you about this subject, I base on personal experience, trial and error and a little bit of research.

In this digital world, making your articles, blog, posts or marketing collaterals or content easy for your readers to share will elevate you (or your blog) from being mediocre to being awesome.

Riding on the viral bandwagon means you have to understand how to make your content do the rounds of word-of-mouth.

Totally Cool and Creative Billboards

Photobucket

Billboards are a great marketing tool. If yours is just like everyone else’s, you probably won’t get that many “looks”. In the above example, the marketers advertised the movie, Kill Bill 2 (in auckland, New Zealand) with the ad splashing blood everywhere.

Marketing is always about being creative. A “just-like-the-others” attitude won’t cut it. Here are some great, creative executions which deserve a second look (literally)…
