Signal Number 3 Now Up for Metro Manila

Emergency posts, gents!

As I write this, the winds howl like rabid wolves outside. In a latest update, news on the Internet stated that “Metro Manila and neighboring provinces are now under public storm warning Signal Number 3 as typhoon Frank (international codename Fengshen) again changed course and is now barreling its way towards southern Luzon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services (PAGASA) said Saturday evening.”

The electricity here has been down for at least 3 times. Better get your flashlights ready, take off the plugs from your PCs, TVs and air conditioning. Brace yourselves. This is going be bad.

Celtics Win 2008 NBA Championship

It’s over! At the end of the battle, “There Can Be Only One”. Which was exactly the theme of this year’s NBA Finals.

And yes, I’m a Celtics fan. Wohoo! Kevin Garnet and Ray Allen nailed the coffin on Kobe and the LA Lakers by winning Game 6 of this classic NBA rivalry. Final scores were 131-92, one of the most lopsided wins in NBA Finals history. This is Boston’s first championship since 1986 and their 17th championship as a franchise.

KG and Ray Allen each scored 26 points to lead their team to victory. Kobe and the Lakers could only watch in amazement as the Celtics pulled away for good.

Meanwhile, Paul Pierce was named Finals MVP.

How Rich Are Our Philippine Senators?

Time out!

Here’s a break from our regular game programming.

Alright, you voted for them. They won. Now, do you want to know how rich our currently-elected senators are?

Inquirer recently published an article saying that Senator Manny Villar leads the pack with a net worth of over 1 billion pesos (USD 23.8M) while Sen. Trillanes is the “poorest” with a net worth of just P2.6 million.

This is based on the senators’ recently declared statement of assets and liabilities (SAL) for 2007. The SAL is a yearly requirement for our officials and is for public consumption.

Want to know how the others fared? Hit jump.

Well… we all know their fight is today. But I’d like to share with you a few facts and the results of their previous battle (which was a draw) before the whole nation and the world face the boob tube or the internet for this most anticipated rematch between our very own, Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao versus Juan Manuel Marquez for the world title called Unfinished Business

In fact, the match is so big here in the Philippines that the miltary and the rebels even scheduled a ceasefire today.

“Manny is going to knock him out,” Top Rank promoter Bob Arum said. “Manny feels that he has really improved dramatically since that first fight with Marquez and that Marquez has gone backwards.”  Via ESPN

Baguio for the Weekend

Last weekend, I was at Baguio to do field work and check on the Internet cafes there. Each senior manager is tasked to do sales/field experience and mine was at the summer capital.

It’s been around 10 years or so since I’ve been to the City of Pines. I left for Baguio Friday, March 7 and went back down to Manila last Sunday, March 9, 2008.

As soon as the bus entered the city limits I expected to smell pine. But, lo and behold, I smelled petrol! Acck! Yes, it’s cold up there but it also is polluted.
