Liveblogging LEVEL UP LIVE 2007: Day 2 Updates (Part 2)

What a successful event! It was tiring, but everything was worth it. A MILLION THANKS TO ALL WHO ATTENDED!

Apologies for not posting updates yesterday since I was super-duper busy with tons of things to attend to. Media interviews, consultations with the head judges, juggling the schedule and a whole slew of other nitty-gritty details to make the event run as smooth as possible. It’s good that our event agency, OGA, already did this event with us for 3 years and they knew exactly how to troubleshoot the little hiccups.

Anyways, highlights for day 2, Sunday were of course COSPLAY, the FS, RF and RO finals and then the mini-concert by Grayhounds, Parokya ni Edgar and Kamikazee.

After the event (which ended at around 9:30pm), we had to pack all those stuff up. Then we had a Level Up celebration dinner with all our staff and friends. That done, it was back to the hotel for me to do final check up on the tournament participants and then it was homeward bound. Woke up at 2pm (most of us will be taking today, Monday, off to rest).

Liveblogging LEVEL UP LIVE 2007: Day 2 Updates

Last day of Level Up LIVE 2007. It’s Sunday and things are running smoothly.

Got some well deserved sleep last night and aside from the RO redemption stub fiasco, everything is ok. We are way ahead of schedule.

Am excited about today due to the cosplay of course and the finals for RPC. We just finished the finals for Freestyle and RF a little bit before lunch and now, GM Lilith is busy as a bee trying to discipline the swarms of participants for the LIVE 2007 cosplay.

As a write this, it’s a few minutes before the start of the cosplay but I got interesting shots of people prepping up for the big event.

Liveblogging LEVEL UP LIVE 2007: Day 1 updates (Part 2)

Alrighty!

It’s almost 1:00 am. I only had 3 hours of sleep last night. But I have to squeak in one last post. This time it’s about the official list of winners of the Day 1 tournaments.

As I discussed on earlier posts, the finals for day one included 4 games. Namely, Pangya, Khan, FlyFF and Perfect World.

Pangya had an interesting story! Champion Christopher Pernia arrived late – the morning of the tournament and still managed to pull off an impressive -28 score in 18 holes. Awesome, dude!

Too bad I wasn’t able to take photos of all the winners. But good thing our official photographer did. Mental note to get those pics from him ASAP

Liveblogging LEVEL UP LIVE 2007: Day 1 updates (Part 1)

It started with a trickle last night with the early bird campout. That trickle eventually turned to downpour as online gamers swarmed to the World Trade Center on day 1 of the Philippines’ BIGGEST and BEST online game event, LIVE 2007.

The line was so long that it reached out as far as to Macapagal Blvd. Sweet!

Thousands trooped to the WTC to witness the grand finals (and opening ceremony). The 4 games scheduled today were Pangya, Khan, FlyFF and Perfect World.

As expected, FlyFFers dominated the event while PW fanatics trooped in the afternoon to cheer for their own server rivalry as teams from both Dragon and Tiger duked it out for the Jade Nightingale, the trophy for Perfect World.

I arrived at around 7:30 and prepared for the opening ceremony. Those of you on the event would have remembered the REAL LIVE JEEP that we drove across the stage for a “shock and awe” effect.

Liveblogging LIVE 2007: Camping Out for Early Bird

Last night, after the rehearsals, I took a peek outside WTC.

To my surprise, there were “campers” for the Early Bird Prize as early as 11pm! OMG! These dudes are really determined to bring home the in-game goodies.

I went to their area and chatted with them. GM Atma even came with me since most of them were FlyFFers. Some came from as far at Bulacan to just camp out. Some of my staff even reported that an RF player was there as early as 6pm of Nov 2! Wow! Talk about determination.

Now, speaking of resourcefulness, a dude even bought a beach chair so he can camp out in style! I promised the players I’d post the photos at the site for all of them to see…

Liveblogging LIVE 2007: Ingress Update 2 (Fri)

It’s less than 24 hours before the big day. Am sure tonight, there will be a lot of campers for the Early Bird prizes. So, don’t you forget, tommorrow, just bring P50 and that will be your entrance for 2 days. We’ll give EVERYONE an in-game item just for attending LIVE 2007.

Anyways, slept late last night as me and the gang tried to do our checklist and wonder if we forgot anything. It’s good that we have the bases covered and the weather is cooperating.

Arrived at the WTC this morning and the event agency reported to me that work is 80% completed. That’s good to hear. The tournament organizing committee is busy fetching our competitors coming from the provinces. Meanwhile, the participants for our free guild booths have started arriving and have set-up their booths.

Liveblogging LIVE 2007: Ingress Update 1 (Thu)

Like I told you, there’s no long vacation, Halloween or All Souls Day for me and the LU crew.

It’s November 1 and we’re stuck here at the World Trade Center getting ready for the Philippines’ biggest online game event – Level Up LIVE 2007.

I arrived here a little after lunch. Traffic was relatively uneventful since I tried desperately hard NOT to pass streets adjacent to cemeteries. The whole are is abuzz with activity – huge tarps were being lifted by “genies” and strung to the rafters, stage hands sawing, screwing and assembling the stage and other sets, trucks and supplies coming in and out.

Everyone had a job and everyone was doing it well. It was a “well-oiled” machine.

Good to note that the weather also cooperated. If you remember, last year, LIVE 2006 was done during the onslaught of “Milenyo”, one of the, if not, the biggest bad-ass typhoons that hit us.

Liveblogging LIVE 2007

The countdown clock at the official LIVE 2007 site is ticking fast. It’s less than 2 days now and everyone involved with this major project are now at a frantic pace to make sure that all preparations are in place.

I’ll be doing the ingress duties and sharing it with PittyDPat, the famous (or infamous) author of the GirlHunt blog. Pat will be the event director while I take on the job of being Tournament Director. Basically, he’ll take care of all non-tournament logistics, decisions and troubleshooting while I attend to the tournament and the competitors.

As this is published, most of the organizing committee, together with O.G.A, our events agency, will now be at the World Trade Center. Our ingress will be from Thursday to Friday (November 1 and 2). That means no vacation or Halloween for us (sigh).

Level Up LIVE 2007 Tournament Prizes

The Philippines’ BIGGEST and BADDEST online gaming tournament is just around the corner.

At November 3 and 4, all roads will lead to the World Trade Center as various teams and individuals compete for over 1.6 MILLION in total cash and prizes at stake!

I already blogged about the cash prizes for the side events and this time, I’ll be telling you how much the champions and the runner-ups can take home. As you may know, most of the games will have 2 teams who will be vying for the championship in their respective games in either a best-of-3 or best-of-5 (depending on the game and match rules).
