How to defeat Lag

August 8, 2008 · Filed Under General, Infotech, Online, Gaming · 8 Comments

This is an old, original article of mine reprinted here. It was first posted at my original blogger site March 24, 2007. Am reposting it here since I just got a lot of complaints about lag and connectivity issues. I hope this will help.

Picture this:

You and your buddies just visited your local, boring NPC to stock up on pots and stuff and head out to the spot where the Boss respawns. It’s 5 minutes till the bastich appears… a few noob groups are hovering like vultures in the horizon.

E3: Resident Evil 5

July 16, 2008 · Filed Under General, Gaming, Events · 3 Comments

Fellow geeks! E3 is currently ongoing (July 15 to 17) at Los Angeles convention center. And Gamespot just spilled the beans by doing a hands on for 2 levels of Capcom’s prized survival horror title - Resident Evil 5.

Gamespot reports that “Resident Evil 5 is looking like a wickedly good debut for the series on the current generation of consoles. The game appears to be building smartly on RE4’s winning revamp of the series. The addition of Sheva is interesting and the promise of online co-op play has us really excited. Though the gameplay may be pretty similar to that in the previous game, that’s hardly a fault. Resident Evil 5 is slated to ship on March 13, 2009 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.”

It looks better on videos than on words…

Purists vs. Hardcore

July 13, 2008 · Filed Under General, Blogging, Musings, MMOments, Gaming, Toys · 6 Comments

I remember back in the old days when me and my old group of tabletop-RPG friends would debate about whether or not MMORPGs are complimentary to traditional pen-and-paper. Most pen-and-paper hobbyists would classify themselves as ”purists” of the gaming revolution and would look at MMORPGs as something vile.

Our debates back then would focus on topics such as how immersive MMORPGs can be, how dull and boring they are (since they are “linear” in a way). Some of my friends would argue that MMORPGs are the onset of technology. It is perfectly natural for gaming to adhere to the rapid gains in technology and the internet.

This debate still lingers on on forums and some blogs, let’s try to list down a few of the finer points. That, after the break…

7 Tips To Win At Crazy Kart

July 6, 2008 · Filed Under General · 10 Comments

Crazy Kart Philippines CBT is doing well and good.

A lot of new players are joing the CK community everyday. I currently have an “A” license, which wasn’t easy to build. Of course, there were no manuals or game guides for this game. Besides, Crazy Kart is simple to control, easy to learn… but mastery and being a winner is an entirely different thing.

Join me as I share with you my notes on how to win races and how to simple fundamental “tricks” can take you to the winner’s podium every race.

Guitar Hero Now Has Drums

June 29, 2008 · Filed Under General, Videos, Gaming · 2 Comments

That’s right!

The soon-to-be-released Guitar Hero: World Tour has added a drum set, mic and a brand new spanking design to their guitar as part of an entirely package and experience. Obviously in an effort to pounce on Rock Band, the guys at Guitar Hero are at it to make both gameplay and gadgets shine with innovation and clever ideas (like the Music Creator) that I hope won’t disappoint.

What’s new with the GH drums? One word - cymbals! Check it out…

The drums of war beat wildly into the night. The dark skies light up as armies raise their weapons and shout their battle cries. In this time of conflict, despair, and trial – legends will be made, immortals will rise, and heroes will be born. Historians will write about their deeds and bards will sing of their glory.

From the Asgardian realm of Midgard, the war-torn continent of Pangu, the harsh deserts of Novus, the hard courts of Freestyle, and the vast islands of Roika…

Metal Gear Solid 4 Gets Perfect Review

June 25, 2008 · Filed Under General, Gaming · 1 Comment

Gamespot has just given Hideo Kojima’s Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots a perfect 10.

Before this, GTA 4 was also given a perfect score. Meanwhile, back to MGS4… Gamespot wrote; “Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is the most technically stunning video game ever made. It’s also a fine example of storytelling prowess within its medium, combining gameplay and narrative so slickly and beautifully that it’s impossible to extricate one from the other.”

After several months of delay, MGS 4 was finally released for the PS3 jast June 12. At this point, the game already boosted sales of the PS3 in Japan by as much as 700%. Sony is surely happy with this. MGS4 has just given the console a new lease on life.

Gaming Legends

June 20, 2008 · Filed Under General, Musings, MMOments, Gaming, Gamer Profiles · Comment

When we talk about “Legends”, these guys are of course, larger than life. People look up to them as role-models of the community. They idolize them due to their achievements, respect their views and often, follow them to the “ends of the earth.”.

These gamers may closely epitomize King Leonidas of the 300, one who will be the first one in a fight and the last one to leave.

What does it take to become a “Legend” inside the MMORPG or game that you play? Is it for everyone? In fact, is it easy at all?

That and more after the break

Racists and Homophobes Online

June 17, 2008 · Filed Under General, Musings, MMOments, Videos, Online, Gaming · 3 Comments

Now they’ve done it!

They pissed off Adam Sessler, host of G4TV. According to Gaming Today, Sessler was playing Xbox Live when a 10-year-old kid started calling him names. Surely, these bigots can’t get enough of ruining a good guy’s day. This doesn’t happen just in Xbox Live, mind you. I’ve seen it (and experienced it) first-hand during the course of MMO playing.

Yes! I agree with you Adam! Let it rip…
