The country was shocked recently about the sad state of things in Mindanao. With over 500 dead, Typhoon Sendong has left the areas of CDO and Iligan City in a state of calamity. This Christmas, if you have something to spare, kindly donate.

Here’s how.

My high school batch has organized relief efforts called “One For Iligan” (in line with our One La Salle program).

We have posted ways you can help the Sendong victims such as

1. Bringing goods like used clothes, medicine and food/water to Gate 2 of La Salle Green Hills
2. Donate via bank deposit
3. Donate via PayPal

So far, we have raised around P500,000 in cash and goods. But of course, it’s not enough.

And you know what? Their Facebook Page is still open for posts. As of this writing, there’s a lot of hate being thrown their way. They should really rethink if they hired the right web/social media managers, yes?

A couple of hours ago, this thing has been making the rounds off Social Media and the Internet virally.

Apparently, someone caught the DPWH posting supposedly official photos of their officials that were photoshoped. OMG!

Eng. Pierre Albert San Diego was one of the first to spot it in his blog.

Tsk. Tsk. This is indeed embarrassing. Someone in DPWH will likely get fired or get their butts whooped. Big time!

Lesson here for any government office to supervise and QA your social media personnel better. They can lead to serious PR problems if not done right. Reminds me of the inverted flag in the Malacanang site.

Recently, a good friend of mine gave me some energy bands to try and see the results for myself. I gave it a shot, and, a couple of weeks later, here’s my short review about it.

A couple of months ago, I purchased this awesome board game from Fantasy Flight, Mansions of Madness. “Mansions” is an H.P. Lovecraft (Cthulhu) themed game where you play the role of investigators. One player will be the “Keeper” to direct the story and progress the plot. It’s a great synergy of table-top RPG and boardgames and me and my buddies, love it!

Anyways, the boxed set came with a lot of unpainted minis. So I decided to try and paint them….

After a primer, base color, wash, highlights and dry brushing, I came out with the finished product below…

Meanwhile, I tried to speed-paint the monsters by giving them a flat black base coat and more dry-brushing and some detailed effects…

I also bought the D&D hack-n-slash boardgame, Wrath of Ashardalon. It also came with a ton of minis… will get me occupied for a couple of months! Wohooo!

Then it’s off to go back to table-top RPG gaming with a new gaming group.

Looking back, I just realized that I’ve been a loyal Nokia user all these years. (ahem-ahem, Nokia marketing peeps). I owned a total of 10 Nokia phones. Whew!

Here’s a short evolution of my personal phone purchases/acquisitions, how I started and what I have today (the N-77, which I plan to upgrade soon).

At long last, those with money in the closed bank, Banco Filipino (like me, darn it!!!) may start filing their claims at the PDIC (Philippine Deposit Insurance Corporation).

The PDIC recently issued a statement saying that they’ll be accepting claims starting May 14, 2011 Claimants are urged to file them ASAP since they can only do so until March 18, 2013.

Thank God!

I have quite some cash in that bank. My Banco Filipino Woes will soon be over.

Meanwhile, here’s the full text of the PDIC bulletin for your convenience:

The Philippine Deposit Insurance Corporation (PDIC) reported that it has started receiving claims of Banco Filipino Savings and Mortgage Bank (BF) depositors with account balances of above P10,000 on April 28 at the premises of the bank’s branches and head office and other designated receiving sites. The claims receiving period ran until May 3 for the small branches and will continue until May 13 for the bigger branches.

PDIC Officer-in-Charge Executive Vice President Imelda S, Singzon emphasized that these depositors need to file claims in order to be paid. Schedules for filing claims which are based on alphabetical listing of depositors’ surnames are posted in the PDIC website (www.pdic.gov.ph) and bank premises.

When filing claims, depositors are required to submit the following: 1) duly accomplished claim forms which were distributed during Depositors’ Forums conducted nationwide or downloaded from the PDIC website; 2) claim status sheets (CSS); 3) original copy of the evidence of deposit such as passbook, certificate of time deposit, bank statements, unused checks or ATM cards; and 4) clear photocopies of two valid IDs bearing photo and signature of the depositor or claimant.

Starting May 14, 2011, depositors may file their claims at the PDIC office located at the 4th Floor, SSS Bldg., Ayala Avenue cor. V.A. Rufino St., Makati City from 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., Monday to Friday. Claims may also be mailed to the PDIC office. Depositors have until March 18, 2013 to file their claims.

After processing of claims, payout will start in mid-July. The schedule of payout details will be announced later. PDIC reiterated its commitment to pay deposit insurance for all valid deposits as soon as possible.

Then, hopefully, I’ll get my money back this July.

In case it didn’t dawn on your pea-sized brain, you and your followers were wrong.

May 21, 2011. The date where Harold Camping, an 89 year-old so-called “prophet” expected that the world will come to an end has come and gone.

Camping and his group of followers brilliantly marketed the campaign via billboards and radio announcements to the sum of millions of dollars. Let’s get this straight, due to his prediction, nay… “guarantee”, his group, familyradio.com is now worth $117 Million dollars.

They erected billboards, tarps and even sent some “evangelists” here to the Philippines and to many parts of the world.

Great way to make a lot of money and piss a lot of people. Yup, I heard that most of his followers sold and gave away their earthly possessions. Now that the world didn’t end, what’s in store for those losers?

This is not the first time that the old fart predicted that the world will end. His first one was in the 1940′s and later in 1994.

Oh well… the world goes on.

What I’m sure of is simple: No one can predict when the world will come to an end. We are currently damaging the very planet that we live in. If we do not change for the better, Mother Nature can easily do a “reset” and wouldn’t mind the millions that will perish. We have to change how we live and how we treat the earth and one another.

It doesn’t matter what you call your god or what your religion is. Change will come from us individually. It starts with you.

The time to act is now.
