Blog Review: geekzkrieg.com

July 4, 2008 · Filed Under Blogging

It’s been a while since I last did some blog reviews.

Here’s something refreshing and recommended - geekzkrieg.com, “the ultimate web magazine for geeks and dorks”.

Sounds like my kinda stuff. The guys at geekzkrieg got their act together with a clean layout and varied content. I’m sure that the site/blog will go places. I really liked how simple it is to find information. Although, their widget and plugins part needs some work.

LAYOUT AND NAVIGATION

Two thumbs up for the clean, simple and impressive magazine layout. The only problem with this layout is that you have to have tons on fresh, new content on a regular basis. Geekzkrieg starts out with 3 contributors although they are looking for more. I like the video player on the right side. Google adsense is also effectively optimized. Same can be said for the navigation at the top. They also nailed the categories as simple and straightforward as can be, going for general categories which are broken down into sub-cats.

Verdict - 5 stars *****

CONTENT

The blog is just a couple of months old. That’s the reason why there’s not too many content yet. I suggest more original posts. This idea is shared by The Fuhrer, one of their co-founders. In an interview, he says “On coffee breaks or when we do get together, we would talk about all the stupid and “dorky” stuff that we stumble upon the internet - whether it be new games, the latest info on tech or sexy babes, these were all great “coffee conversations”. Of course, we’d get the lowdown on these topics from various blogs and sites all across the web. One day, we all told ourselves “Hey, wouldn’t it be good if there was one place on the web where geeks like us could get all the juicy stuff?” It sounded like a swell idea. A few weeks later, we were buying the geekzkrieg.com URL.”

Great idea. Best of luck.

VALUE

I guess the main thing that attracts me to Geekzkrieg.com is that it really is a blender of all things geeky… and I thank them for coming up with it. Although not a new idea, these guys are determined to really make it big. With a few adjustments, lots more of content, a catchy name, the true value of this blog will come out when they do make it a community thing - get fellow geeks to post and put in their ideas or just the “great finds” on the net. Once they do so, I’m sure the hits will come and success will follow. “One of the things that we’re working on right now is to open the contributions to our readers. I really want it to be a real online web magazine with contributors from all across the globe. The vision is for geezkrieg.com to be international. Other products and services in the pipeline include a “geek store”, online and SNS events for all our readers and a virtual community home – perhaps a forum, in the coming months.” The Fuhrer said.

Finally, they say that they are not “neo-nazis” and just used the name for good recall when they bought the URL.

Verdict - 4 stars ****

CONCLUSION

Well, geekzkrieg has it all, tech, babes, game, movies, toys, videos and other “stupid stuff”. With better content selection, plug-in management and further marketing of their site, I’m sure that these guys will go places. I’m monitoring their site daily and I suggest you also visit and subscribe to the RSS

Make it a daily habit to visit Geekzkrieg.com. You won’t regret it.

Cheers,
