A lot has happened yesterday. Most people here in the office were wary about sudden e-mails, dubious plurk posts, blog posts and even status messages in YM or MSN.
Such is the nature of April Fools Day.
You really can’t trust anyone… otherwise, the joke’s on you. I started a seemingly innocent plurk post about my supposed negotiations for an Oz World (our first online game) movie or TV series. Hehehe. I think I got some people to believe it.
Meanwhile, most people placed “I’m resigning” in their YM status messages. Kinda dangerous coz ever since the global crisis, your joke could become reality. Oh well… after the break, I’ll show you what pranks top companies like Google, Yahoo or Microsoft did for April Fools.
April Fools Around The Web
Alrighty then! Here’s what the other pranksters did yesterday
- Youtube had their videos upside down and you can follow the instructions on how to view them here. It includes such wacky tips as turning your monitor upside down, tilting your head or even moving to Australia
- Gmail told everyone that they had Autopilot, a revolutionary technology which replies even to spam mail such as crackpots asking you to make a deposit since they have millions stashed in bank account somewhere in Africa. Sheesh.
- Microsoft announced that MSN Messenger has automatic mood detection which “monitors your real-time physiological state and translates that into a mood (happy, sad, anxious, etc), such that you would never have to enter an emoticon again.”
- Here’s one of my favorites, Expedia offers Flights to Mars! Yeah, you heard it… get it now for only $99… you save 3 Trillion USD! Wow!
- Yahoo now offers Ideological Search which allows you to control the ideology of your search results
Oh well… those were just some of the thousands of pranks that happened yesterday via the Web. You can read about the others here.
What about you? Got a funny anecdote about yesterday?
Peace!
