Chinese Gold Farming

BBC reports on the massive scale of gold farming for WoW. To most Chinese, it’s a full-time job. With a population of over 1.3 billion people, the growth of the gaming population has been incredible. From just around 22.3 million players less than a year ago, this has ballooned to 147 million. A growth of 559%.

Blizzard has began a crackdown on these operations which has been closely monitored by the blogosphere.

Game Industry Salaries

Being a member of the gaming industry, I always try to keep up with industry news. My latest find was a survey conducted in 2007 by Jill DuffyThe Game Industry Salary Review. Note that the figures above are NOT the Philippine standards (I could only wish. sigh).

They sent email invitations to Game Developer magazine subscribers, Game Developers Conference 2006 attendees, and Gamasutra.com members in January 2007, inviting them to participate in our annual salary survey. There were 5,600 respondents. Of course, the figures were in USD (US Dollars). I wondered how much the monthly compensation of gaming professionals were in PHP, hence the graph above. The standard in the US and other countries is “annual compensation”. We Pinoys measure it in “monthly”.

Gadgets: Asus EEE Box

We all know how cool the small Asus EEE notebooks are, right? It’s great for blogging but not for real computing. For me it’s a secondary laptop to take with you to Starbucks or during your travels.

If you think that gadget is great, check out the new Asus innovation, the Asus EEE Box. It’s somewhat a clone of the Apple iMac Mini but more affordable.

Check out the video review about and then hit jump for the actual specs and price.
