Marissa Miller

March 24, 2008 · Filed Under Gamer Babe, Girls · 3 Comments

Model Marissa Miller loves surfing. In fact, it was during surfing that she had a break in her modeling career. She was discovered by Mario Testino, a famous photographer. He took a few pictures of her and went back to his studio.  Not long afterwards, Marisa was called and asked if he wanted to become a model.

You might not know it but Marissa is also a gamer. She loves playing Guitar Hero.

In an interview at SportsIllustrated, she said “I think I’m always crazy and obsessed with music. Usually the background for my life is different music and trying to get the energy up. So, I mean, music is always a big one. What else am I crazy about? I’ve been playing Guitar Hero a lot lately [laughs]. Do you play that game? It’s so addicting and you feel like such a rock star, so I’ve been doing that a lot. It’s so funny because you feel like you’re actually a musician, even though you’re not.”

You can fret us all day, Marissa and we won’t miss a beat for you.

More photos of Marissa Miller after the jump.

I Hope Your Vacation Wasn’t Like This

March 24, 2008 · Filed Under Videos · 7 Comments

I was driving through Metro Manila last Thursday and Friday and man, it was like a ghost time. Best motoring I had (every year). Most urbanites were out-of-town and headed to the beaches for the long Holy Week break. How was yours?

It’s Monday now, vacation’s over and it’s back to work for a lot of folks. But I sure hope the beaches or swimming pools you went ain’t anything like the one below.

Believe or not, this is a true public pool in Japan. It’s the Tokyo Summerland Wave Pool. Boy, them Japanese are really hard to figure.

Give me one more click and I’ll show you the video of this pool making HUGE waves

The ICQ Toothpaste

March 23, 2008 · Filed Under Musings, Gadgets · 3 Comments

Do you remember ICQ? One of the first instant messaging services in the web?

The Israeli company that developed ICQ has recently partnered with a pharma company to come up with a real, working ICQ TOOTHPASTE (see below). I kid thee not.

In fact, it seems that their marketing mantra is “help P2P communication (person to person) while reducing bad breath.”

Lame? Cool? Useless?

You decide…

[ infotech ] Wifi Can Now Reach 60 Miles

March 23, 2008 · Filed Under Infotech, Gadgets · Comment

Wifi here at the office can reach the veranda at the 6th floor but the signal is low (we’re at the 11th floor). I sure wish there’s a way to boost the darn signal. Well, methinks my prayers are finally answered.

Intel has recently figured a way to boost WiFi to 60 miles. “The wireless technology, called the rural connectivity platform (RCP), will be helpful to computer-equipped students in poor countries, says Jeff Galinovsky, a senior platform manager at Intel. And the data rates are high enough–up to about 6.5 megabits per second–that the connection could be used for video conferencing and telemedicine, he says.” to quote the article at Technology Review

The system consists of processor, radios, specialized software, and an antenna

Where Do Your Blog Visitors Come From?

March 21, 2008 · Filed Under Blogging · Comment

I really love Google Analytics. It’s the blog and site metric webware that I use. It allows me to see at a glance my blog’s stats: how many visited, from where and what they read. If you have a blog, I suggest you try it too.

Now, a year into blogging, I’d like to show you guys where visitors to this site come from.

From my latest count, I have visitors from 126 countries. Whoa! That’s a lot. Thanks to some good ol-fashioned SEO and link baiting, I for one am happy with the results.

Let’s take a look…

Religion and Video Games

March 21, 2008 · Filed Under General, Gaming · 3 Comments

It’s Holy Week once again. It’s time to reflect upon the real reason for the holiday.

While we’re at it, I’d like to repost this piece which I did last year (around the same time) at my old blogger blog. It’s about Christian video games, its history and how it affects us today.

I invite you to take a look into religion’s foray into the virtual world and then judge for yourself. Is there really a need for religion and games to mix?

More after the break…
