Here’s some latest update from everyone’s fav anticipated MMO title, Ragnarok 2.

According to the translated script of this Japanese article, Gravity Korea announced an update last March 26, 2008 on Ragnarok Online 2.

An “Armor Reinforcement System” allows protective equipment to provide special effects, thus giving more value to equipments than normal items. Monsters are also to use a variety of skills and improved strategies when fighting. High-level characters can now go through more than newly added 100 quests.

And yes, that’s the entire translation of that short update. That’s all she wrote, ika nga. I’ll update more as news come in.

New Servers for RF and PW

The launch of a new server is always welcome news. To us, on the business side, this means that we’ve created a lot of demand, and the worlds (servers) are becomming too crowded too fast. It’s a good marketing and business problem. It also goes to show who’s the better online gaming company (*snicker). That’s why we’re all excited about the launch of new servers for both Perfect World and RF Online.

For players, new servers are a good way to start. Your build sucked? Try the new world and learn from your mistakes. Want to start a new “all-star” guild? A new server is also the perfect avenue. Or, you might want to be a part of power level race since you already know where the optimized places to level are. Whatever your reasons, new servers always offer a smile.

Dates and details of both servers after the jump

Console vs Online Gaming (by Kelvin Uy)

This guest post is by Kelvin Uy. Kelvin immediately wrote me when he heard that I was opening up guest posting in this blog. In fact, he’s scheduled to conduct his OJT (on-the-job-training) at Level Up this week and we’re both equally excited to meet and get to know each other.

On with his article…

I remember the first time I played console games with the Nintendo system. Those were Street Fighter and the famous Super Mario Bros. It me took countless hours of playing - until I finished the game and then play them all over again. Meanwhile, new Playstation and PS2 games have been published to grab a significant portion of the market share.

With the evolution of technology, game developers have crossed through another medium called the Internet and massively multiplayer PC games have been produced. Thus was born the MMORPG.

Which is better? You decide.

Second Skin - MMO Movie Documentary

Second Skin, by Purewest Films (www.secondskinfilm.com) is new, movie/documentary about online games and MMORPGs.

What’s interesting here is they take 7 gamers whose lives changed forever because of virtual worlds. The movie tackles identity, community, economy, love, addiction and many other facets of this growing worldwide “boom”. The movie states that 50 million people play MMORPGs - your friend, relative, officemate, classmate or even your mom could be a gamer.

Their official movie site details the film more: “Second Skin takes an intimate look at computer gamers whose lives have been transformed by the emerging genre of Massively Multiplayer Online games (MMOs). World of Warcraft, Second Life, and Everquest allow millions of users to simultaneously interact in virtual spaces. Second Skin introduces us to couples who have fallen in love without meeting, disabled players who have found new purpose, addicts, Chinese gold-farming sweatshop workers, wealthy online entrepreneurs and legendary guild leaders - all living in a world that doesn’t quite exist.”

Ey peeps… been quite awhile since I posted a new Gamer Profile.

6 Things MMOs Owe to D&D

The passing of Gary Gygax, co-creator of Dungeons and Dragons is a true loss not just to the pen-and-paper or traditional RPG industry but to the entire gaming community.

There is much that we owe D&D - part largely to Gary’s ideas and imagination. From the rudimentary rules of miniatures war gaming, Gary culled the rules for the first D&D system. He, together with Dave Arneson, opened the universe to gaming. Imagine what fantasy gaming, video games and MMORPGs would be like without D&D and without Gary’s legacy?

What a bland landscape that would be. There wouldn’t be any Lynx, no Cloud or Final Fantasy and certainly Ragnarok or WoW would never have been conceived.
