Congrats to us! We just bagged the recently concluded Philippine Web Awards under the category of Lifestyle and Leisure. The awards night for the “Webby’s” was held at the Teatrino Bar and Restaurant, Promenade, Greenhills Commercial Complex, in San Juan City last Friday, Nov. 23
www.levelupgames.ph won both the award for the category and of course, the coveted People’s Choice Awards. We would not have done this without the support of the loyalist Level Up gaming community. So, in behalf of everyone here at Level Up, I would like to extend our MILLION THANKS TO ALL OUR PLAYERS! SALAMAT PO NG MARAMI!
And for supporting us, we’re keeping our promise of giving you in-game rewards depending on which game you play.

I Won 20k at Ad Con! Yahoo!
Woot! I never expected to win something at Ad Congress. With a lot of gadgets, stuff and even cars being given away, I only had a 1 in 3,500 chance of winning something (0.03% - just like a boss drop damn it)
I’m NOT that unlucky with raffles. In fact, I have the unofficial title of winning back-to-back grand prize raffles at the Level Up Christmas party – having won 2 refrigerators last 2004 and 2005.
Anyways, I took home P20,000 cold cash at the GMA 7 dinner “Bingo” held Friday night (November 23, 2007) here at Subic.

20th Philippine Ad Congress Photo Essay
First, I apologize for not having any posts yesterday. I was really busy the entire day at the 20th Philippine Ad Congress and was too tired to even open my laptop. Besides, my mobile wireless was not working and there was no Internet in our rented house.
Needless to say, PittyDPat, Gamer Babe Pam, and Joie were busy manning the booth while JC Medina was trying to do his “networking” rounds to find potential clients for our advergaming thrust. On Friday, November 23, Level Up International COO Ben “Gameboss” Colayco gave a great talk on advergaming, much to the delight of the crowd. He not just showed numbers and case studies but he also wowed the audience with a video about “Totoy” – a typical teenager and his daily encounters with ads and advergaming. We had this video produced just for this event.

RF Philippines Arms Race 3 Now Open for Recruitment
Ey troops! Still here at Ad Con. I’m about to take photos now and upload it here later.
Meanwhile, while doing my daily rounds, I found out that RF Online Arms Race 3 is now fully operational as of yesterday. Remember, I blogged about this a couple of days ago, right?
Now, the gates are open to recruitment.
RF Arms Race 3 is an online recruitment program wherein we will award the race and individuals who beef up their forces for the war on the planet Novus.

20th Philippine Ad Congress
Am currently at Subic Freeport to attend the 20th Philippine Ad Congress. Subic is host to this every-other-year celebration, gathering and recognition of marketing and advertising talents and innovations.
Level Up has a booth at the Ad Congress where we aim to spread the word about advergaming and its huge potential for other companies to reach out to the youth through our mediums (games). I’ll be here together with some Level Up managers and big bosses until Saturday (November 24).
Oh, one more thing, Neil Gaiman is is here as a special guest. He’s scheduled to give a talk tomorrow morning at 9:00am about “Imagination and Creativity in the Contemporary World”. I don’t think he can sign books if you bring them to him, you’ll have to fork out P1,500 to get in line and get a Beowulf manuscript signed by Neil. Do check out his blog since he’s now writing about just getting here and preparing for Ad Congress.

Gadgets: Rail Guns To Be Used By US Navy
The word Rail Gun conjures sci-fi images of a BFG (Big *$#$#%*#$ Gun) that does uber-damage. More like technology from the realms of RF Online or from movies like Arnold’s Eraser.
But that technology is slowly becoming reality.
Just recently BAE Systems has delivered a functional, 32-megajoule Electro-Magnetic Laboratory Rail Gun (32-MJ LRG) to the U.S. Naval Surface Warfare Center in Dahlgren, Virginia, USA.
I thought it would look like a monster, menacing weapon. But it looks more like something from an automobile factory.
But looks can be deceiving. This machine can fire a projectile at speeds reaching Mach 8. Now THAT’S impressive! This baby can be in my recent post about weapons we wished we already had.

[Comics] The New Captain America
In case you don’t know, Steve Rogers aka Captain America is dead!
He was killed in a “rain of gunfire” in the March issue of CAPTAIN AMERICA (#25). This January (issue #34) a new, yet to be named character, will replace Steve Rogers and don a new costume designed by Marvel’s Alex Ross.
The new cap will have a cool, new look and will be wielding a GUN! Yeah, baby!
According to the official news at marvel.com: “Well I think in many ways we want people to react with whatever emotions that come to mind,” says Ross. “The idea that Captain America would have an offensive weapon like a gun…if it’s an upset feeling, we want it to be so. We want it to feel like, ‘Oh, he’s got a gun now. Captain America with a gun?!’ You know, it should stick in your mind that that’s something. This is not your father’s Captain America, so to speak. It’s a more brutish interpretation, at this point, for the modern age.”

How To Conserve Digital Camera Battery Use
It always happens to me since my old Olympus digital compact is really a battery-drainer… imagine this scenario, I’m either about to take a sexy cosplayer or asking someone to take my photo with a celebrity and then bam! The battery runs out on me and makes a fool. Arggg!
Oh well, here are some tips which you can use to maximize and lengthen your digicam’s battery use.
First, let’s discuss the two most common types of batteries used by digital cameras today. First is a lithium-ion battery. This is usually pre-fabricated to the brand and requires recharging via AC outlet or USB. If possible, try to get a spare battery unit if your camera has this type. The second type of battery is the typical AA or AAA alkaline batteries. Most cameras use 2 pieces. I would advise you to get rechargeable batteries to save on costs. Just make sure to read up on your camera’s documentation to check up on which type of rechargeable battery is best for your unit.

JLA Movie (2009) Potential Cast
Here’s another anticipated hero-flick, Justice League of America. Warner Bros is set on timeline on releasing the film around the summer of 2009. The film, to be directed by George Miller (Happy Feet, Mad Max), is expected to announce an official cast sometime this week or the next.
But already, some sites are speculating on possible names to don the costumes of DC’s most powerful heroes.
The IMDB writes an unofficial plot summary - Seven original members of the Justice League — Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, the Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman, and the Martian Manhunter — are featured in an origins story about the superhero conglomerate. The plot revolves around villainous businessman Maxwell Lord and involves cyborgs called OMACs (One-Man Army Corps), who can take over humans and turn them into killing machines. There are epic battle scenes between Superman and Batman, as well as Superman and Wonder Woman, and League could spawn a slew of additional franchises if it’s successful.
