[Video] Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

Here’s another upcoming title to look for in 2008. George and his elven helpers are busy doing the finishing touches for their new game, Star Wars The Force Unleashed.

Set to be released in Q2 of 2008, The Force Unleashed has some amazing graphics and an equally kick-ass trailer (see below). The game will be available for Xbox 360, the Wii and the Playstation 3 (let me check if they’ll develop something for the PS 2 still).

As its name implies, The Force Unleashed completely re-imagines the scope and scale of the Force by taking full advantage of newly developed technologies that will be seen and experienced for the first time.

After the jump, check out the kick-ass trailer and more about the game

Friendster Now Available In Spanish

When it comes to SNS or Social Networks, the most widely used one in the Philippines is of course, friendster.

How many of you, my pinoy readers, DO NOT have a friendster account?

Meanwhile, friendster is now officially available in Spanish. I got hold of this information when I received an e-mail notice just yesterday. The offer for the Spanish language joins their other languages, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese and English.

These languages represent 56 percent of the world’s Internet users, or approximately two-thirds of a billion Internet users.

12 Midnight Curfew Starts in Metro Manila, Parts of Luzon

In a move related to the siege at Manila Pen, government has just announced that there will be a curfew of 12am to 5am starting midnight tonight (technically, Friday Nov 30 AM).

DILG Secretary Ronaldo Puno made the announcement just tonight.

Below is the text from official reports via inquirer.net

“We are doing this to protect the citizenry. This is not martial law,”
Philippine National Police Chief Avelino Razon told INQUIRER.net in a phone interview.

Razon said the curfew would hopefully be implemented for just a day.

In a news briefing in Malacañang, Puno appealed to the public to “bear with the inconvenience” brought about by the declaration of the curfew.

Trillanes, Rebels Invade Manila Peninsula Hotel

November 29, 2007 - Makati, Philippines. Senator Antonio Trillanes, who was jailed before for a previous mutiny against the government, is at it again. This morning, Trillanes and his supporters marched from the Makati Regional Trial Court at around 10:30am and proceeded to the Manila Peninsula Hotel (just a few blocks away from our office). There, after talking to the media, announced that he, together with Gen. Danilo Lim.

An APC “Simba” smashed into the hotel which housed Trillanes, his gang and several mediamen who refuesed to go out. Even Philippine vice-president Teofisto Guingona went to the hotel to show his support.

As of this writing, Trillanes, Lim and their supporters have surrendered peacefully and the “Makati standoff” seemed to have been resolved peacefully.

From this coverage by Inquirer, Trillanes gives this statement about the siege; “We’re going out for the sake of the safety of everybody, for your sake because we cannot live with our conscience if some of you get hurt or get killed in the crossfire,” said Trillanes, addressing the media.

“If there’s a loser here it’s the Filipino nation because she’s [Arroyo] still there,” he added, noting that he was ready to face the consequences of his action.

Brigadier General Danilo Lim, who was with Trillanes, said this was not the end, calling the incident an “unfinished business.”

Video Games to Outsell Music

MSN reports that video games are likely to outsell sales of music, at least in the United States next year.

The report said that key growth sectors will include “online and wireless games, new-generation consoles and the burgeoning in-game advertising business.” That’s music to my ears (pardon the pun) since we here at Level Up are fast-tracking our advocacy on promoting our advergaming services.

The predictions are all part of the eighth annual edition of PwC’s “Global Entertainment and Media Outlook” report.

To quote; “By 2011, the worldwide gaming market will be worth $48.9 billion at a compound annual growth rate of 9.1% during the five-year period, with gains slowing every year because of the maturation of the current generation of consoles, according to the report. The compound gains handily exceed the 6.4% advance that PwC foresees for the overall entertainment economy during the period.”

“Video gaming is one of the most exciting stories in terms of pure growth numbers,” said Marcel Fenez, PwC’s global managing partner for its entertainment and media practice.

And no, that’s not an MMORPG boss! That’s Marlyn Manson in the photo above

[video] Another Nice Ad

I already told you why ads should be engaging. Human emotion is a marketer’s best friend. Those who properly communicate their brand’s values to the consumers get their message across undiluted and direct to the point.

Coming from the Ad Congress, I’ve already began research on some award winning commercials and ads since I was hyped and “pumped up” from all the new things I learned.
Below is something very interesting.

Guess what brand or product the ad is for. I’m sure you’ll be surprised when you see the “end tag”.

Enjoy!

Video: Sleeping, The Ninja Way

If you’re stressed out, overworked and have been traveling a lot lately (like me), sleep should be your best friend.

It’s important to get AT LEAST 8 hours of sleep a day… that’s what my doctor told me. Although I’m not expert, I think that having good sleeping habits is essential to keeping a healthy and sane life.

And in this “life in the fast lane”, don’t forget your daily quota, okay?

And in stark contrast of how to do it right, let me show you a wacky way to help you get some sleep. Of course, I’ll let you decide. hehehe.

Cheers!

Why Ads Should Engage

After just attending the 20th Philippine Ad Congress last week, listening to talks, shooting sexy booth babes, and taking home P20,000, I also got excited by the new things I learned from the great topics shared by the experts and professionals in the field of advertising and marketing.

One of the seminars called for “engaging your audience” in ads.

Now, why should “engaging” be important in ads? Won’t hardsell and harping on your brand’s features do the trick? In this world where the consumer is over-exposed to marketing communications, those techniques won’t cut it anymore.

Marketers should be able to communicate one’s brand by identifying which emotions are directly affected by the brand’s values. Only then do you begin to communicate what your brand’s real identity is.

2007 Ad Congress Booth Babes

Imagine your company has a booth at the 20th Philippine Ad Congress, one of the most coveted events for the marketing and advertising industry. What would be on your checklist?

Let’s see… big and impressive booth? Check. Thousands of collaterals? Check. Interesting freebies and give-aways for guests? Check. Prizes and raffles? Check. Sexy and attractive booth babes? Check and double-check.

The Ad Con had its share of booth babes, no doubt about that. I think the modeling community had a mini-EB at Subic due to the sheer number of girls (and ok, some guys) at the event.

As your roving blogger, here are some of the girls that caught my fancy.
