Gadgets: HP Blackbird Gaming PC
Finally, HP joins the gaming bandwagon and has just announced the limited release of its new gaming PC called the BLACKBIRD 002.
The rig is thing of beauty. You’ll drool over the lovely lines, the screwless casing and of course, the specs.
It’s every gamer’s orgasm… oops…pardon me.
It’s dubbed “By Gamers, For Gamers”

Check out the specs after the jump, dude!

Video: FlyFF Trashes Other Games
Before any comments or complains, let me put a disclaimer that this is an OLD video.
What I remembered about this video was back in the old days (before the merger with Netgames), my “spies” would forward me this video and we would be REALLY critical about it.
It clearly shows FlyFF trashing the characters of Khan, MU and Ragnarok. Look at the cliff scene and you’ll see why. (they CAN’T fly).
Who would imagine that I would now be working with the guys who were running FlyFF? One the most popular among them would be GM Atma, currently one of my trusted and hard-working Brand Managers.
Anyways, on with the video…

Special Day
Alrighty!
Today’s a special day for me personally. Those who know me well know the occassion. Anyways, I’m back at the office as usual putting on my fireman cap and dousing the flames of issues, technical problems and other stuff that may potentially derail our plans for the last quarter.
I’m off to a meeting with our agency to mop up plans for LEVEL UP LIVE 2007. After that, I’ll see if I can post the poll for the finalists of my recently concluded Group Writing Project.
Tonight I’ll go over to our boss’ house for some drinks, games and a little chitty-chat.

The RF Online Philippines Novus Tour
Being a novice and a noob is not easy.
Back in the weeks when RF Online went free, some players were exploiting the chaos potions - these potions allow you to hit those of your own race. What some griefers did was kill all the lowbies spawning into the newbie lands. Really, really annoying if it’s your first time to play RF Online.
I discussed this with Keith, my RF Brand Manager and the new and lovely CM Cydie. Phase 1 of the plan was to convince CCR to make the Chaos Pots more expensive (yup, they already did this) and the second one was to make a “newbie tour” where RF Vanguards and volunteers would guide all newbies into RF online.
Not just information and basic knowledge of the game, mind you. We also have a few consumables and newbie items to give away.
Kudos to the RF team for coming up with this great idea. If it works well, we’ll incorporate it into the other games as well.

How To Avoid Being Hacked
When I talk to my friends and officemates in the Customer Care department, we do have a lot of hack complaints, calls and tickets.
When I ask about the number cause of hacks or account compromises, the most common cause is NEGLIGIENCE.
That’s right, kids. Sometimes, we take small things for granted, like typing slow or inputting our password in a public place (like a cafe) surrounded by unscrupulous individuals.
I already discussed some common tips to avoid being hacked back in my old blog. But here’s an update from the RF boards. The hackers and account thieves are being more advanced now, using mediums such as Yahoo, YM, and even friendster to get into your MMORPG account. This is true not just here in the Philippines but anywhere too.

1 GB (Then and Now)
It’s really amazing to note how fast technology advances.
Do you remember a few years back? Back in the late 90s, if you had a harddrive with a GIG capacity, you were considered a “god”. Now, there are phones with that much capacity either built-in or in a teeny-weeny card.
Check out the picture after the jump.
It shows what a 1GB hard drive looked around 20 years ago. Then check out the hand holding a memory card with the same capacity.
Just one more click…

Perfect World, Perfect Match
One of the coolest and uniques features of our newest game, Perfect World is the ability to customize your character to be able to make him or her look like yourself or just about anybody you’d want.
I went inside the game and have seen imitations of movie characters, Tekken characters and a whole lot more.
Kudos to new Perfect World Brand Manager, GM Justice (promoted) for coming up with a new contest that capitalizes on this game feature.
Called “Perfect Match”, you just try to copy a person (either yourself or a celebrity) and just send it via e-mail.

Level Up @ Tagaytay
Last week (Monday and Tuesday), the management team of Level Up Philippines including the individual Brand Managers under me went to scenic and cool Tagaytay for our annual planning.
The calm and cold environment was the perfect place to release all those creative juices and put our heads together to plan Level Up’s corporate and brand strategies for 2008 and beyond (including top secret stuff – which I can’t really tell you hehehe).
We stayed at the quaint Casablanca hotel resort with a jaw-dropping view of Taal lake. The fog, the fresh air and the ambience made me and the team forget all about the stress, hustle and bustle of urban Makati and Metro Manila.

Yes, Virginia, that’s a new haircut!

12 Year Old Starts Online Game Company. Makes $6.5M
Now that I think about it. I may be too old for this industry. And that’s not just me, so will be everyone else working for online game companies.
Here’s what’s real. A 12-year old kid has founded a Silicon Valley based company called playspan. Playspan is the “game industry’s first publisher-sponsored™ in-game commerce™ network. PlaySpan’s patent-pending in-game search, commerce and micropayment technologies enable game publishers and developers to generate new revenues, acquire new users and extend the loyalty of existing users.”
According to their official website;
“PlaySpan is founded by Arjun Mehta, a 5th grader, passionate about gaming and software programming that can make game playing experience exciting and more importantly rewarding!
PlaySpan started in Arjun’s garage in Silicon Valley in 2006 and was incorporated with Arjun’s earnings from selling online game items won from quests he fought while attending 5th grade at Challenger School in San Jose. “
