This is about an editorial written by Michelle Clay of Turbine Games. She posts her story at womengamers.com
She writes about an interesting account of life inside an industry dominated by males. There, Michelle narrates about how the guys often treat her as somewhat of an oddity. But she has learned to adapt and survive in both the office and the industry.
Here’s an excerpt:
This is a young industry filled with young employees; and to top it off, it’s an industry that is all about play. So a large percentage of the employees are boisterous and unused to suit-and-tie formality. The result is a tee-shirt-and-jeans dress code, toys in the cubicles, nerf battles, after-work game sprees, over-the-top Halloween decorations, witty banter, trash-talk, and sometimes, topics of conversation that might get you a stern warning if you worked in an uptight environment. Sometimes it feels a bit like the Wild West. But, to balance that, from what I have seen, the folks in this industry know how to toggle in an instant from fun to serious. The work has got to get done, and it can’t be left in a shoddy state on account that the team was having a rubber-band battle.

In this new age of MMORPGs, the business model is slowly shifting to Free-to-Play games with an item mall.
But in order for game publishers and companies to maximize the potential of this model, there has to be a HUGE userbase. This is alright for countries such as the US, Korea, Japan and China where gaming population is really massive AND their spending power is greater than countries such as ours.
Also, managing the items, especially the prices, in the mall is key to success and profitability.
Sadly, not all game developers give full cooperation to their publishers.
Thanks to good friend, Tiahip, for sending yet another nifty “nonsense” mail to my inbox. Speaking about the devil, he’s all set for his delayed coverage (with photos) of the San Diego Comic Con.
More of that soon.
Anyways, thoughts about the remote? Meanwhile, you might want to join my group writing project and get a chance to win, not this remote, but a 1GB USB Flash drive.
This video from G4TV is super cool. Like they said, with virtually 90% of games brimming with weapons, the job to narrow it down to a list of 10 was “extremely difficult”.
See some retro and classic weapons from games such as Doom, Quake and even Mario Kart!
See if you can guess what the number one gun is? Hint: it’s an FPS.
Researchers from the Wellcome Trust Centre for Neuroimaging at University College in London have rigged a “Pac-Manish” video game which electrocutes users when the villians grab hold of them in pursuit.
All in the name of science.
According to a report published by Wellcome Trust website; “Wellcome Trust scientists have identified for the first time how our brain’s response changes the closer a threat gets.”
Based on these series of tests, they have identified how we humans respond to a threat based on how far or significant that threat is.

Don’t join the bandwith rush on actual patch day. You can download Episode 15: Rachel of Ragnarok now and have your system ready when it patches on September 5.
It won’t harm your system but you can download it now. Note that we won’t have a CD available for Rachel, ok? Also, just an update, the official website for Rachel is now being finalized. I will announce it soon when it goes online.

In response to numerous requests from my new-found friends/gamers from Bacolod, I’m posting a compilation of choice photos from my weekend trip.
The photos include some taken from the event and then from the team dinner at Aboy’s - where they serve GOOD scallops, inasal, crispy pata and bulalo.
Again, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Mark Delfin and his gang at Net Axis and for all our LU staff, especially Ryan, for their hardwork, dedication, and loyalty.
