Pinoy Taste: Can Video Games Deliver?

May 31, 2007 · Filed Under General, Musings, Online, Gaming · 5 Comments

A lot has been said about gaming preference in the west. But there seldom are points of view about escapism in Asia (maybe concentrated in Korea and China, the gaming Meccas of our region). But few have dared venture into the pschye and the preference of the Filipino gamer when in comes to escapism and the general preference of the pinoy in games.

On Rollbacks and Exploits

May 31, 2007 · Filed Under Level Up, Online · 8 Comments

One of the hardest thing for both publishers and developers in the online gaming industry is to approve (or decide upon) a rollback.

Every once in a while, some “wise guy” will find an exploit inside the game which threatens the integrity of the game and/or the game balance which is mostly hinged upon the economy. Almost all games have a fixed drop rate so that rare and powerful items are kept… well… rare (and valuable).

The moment one screws up with this delicate balance, the entire game and the community crumbles down like a deck of cards.

Perfect World: Startup Advisory

May 30, 2007 · Filed Under Perfect World · 20 Comments

Mabuhay Philippines!

To all cafes and Perfect World beta testers:

We’ve been having reports in the field (and from some of you, my dear readers) that some players and cafe owners seem to think that an apparent “error message” in the PW launcher is really an error. Well, it’s NOT. Some players reportedly just quit… thinking that the game failed to connect to the server.

FYI, some of you will experience a “failed to connect” message. GM T’s advice: IGNORE IT! See below and just CLICK THE ORANGE BUTTON

Hope this helps!

Blogging for 2KBloggers

May 29, 2007 · Filed Under Blogging, Musings · Comment

Just recently, I joined the 2kbloggers network. The site is “the face of the blogosphere” and it’s basically a blog about bloggers blogging. Clear?

According to my new group;

“We’re bloggers from all walks of life, from mommy bloggers to marketing bloggers: Some are SEO experts, some are writers, some are sports enthusiasts, some are affiliate marketers, some are business professionals, some are political… ALL HAVE OPINIONS!!! We’re a community of bloggers dedicated to sharing. Our writers write on various topics; we’re all about variety and diversity.”

And I guess I’m lucky enough to get my first post about How To Promote Your Blog approved! That’s me down there….Weee!

RF Online: Level 60 Concept Armors

May 29, 2007 · Filed Under Online, Gaming, RF Online · 18 Comments

Ex-Accretian Archon “X” was kind enough to share with me these pics a few weeks ago via Yahoo Messenger.

He says these are Level 60 concept armors for the 3 races of RF Online. X is always good at “finding stuff”. At any rate, I had to wipe the drool off my jaw when I glimpsed at the actual pics! Wowowee! Nice! (with Borat accent)

It makes me want to go to the RF-PH team’s area in the office and whip ‘em good to expedite Episode 2. Bilis! Kilos na!

More pics after the jump!

If Gamers Would Just READ

May 29, 2007 · Filed Under General, Blogging, Online, Gaming · 9 Comments

While doing some blog-hopping (one of my stress-busters after office work), I came upon Horonaim’s blog. And hell yeah, I haven’t been to that part of the blogosphere lately. And his post on Gamers Need To Read caught my fancy.

It’s still just 1:00AM and I decide to give gmtristan.com one more post about online games (Perfect World in this instance) before shut-eye… with inspiration (and due credit of course to the one of the pillars of “Online Gaming Forum Adminstration” - Horonaim).

Excerpts from his post and my opinions up next…

Perfect World: Buying Gold in Auction House

May 29, 2007 · Filed Under Online, Gaming, Perfect World · 5 Comments

Special thanks, of course to Horonaim for updating the Nocturnal Sun blog, Perfect World Philippines’ “psuedo-official” venue for game development and testing. The info on this post is from that.

At any rate, this new online game/MMORPG is fast becoming one of the country’s most talked about titles. Basing it on demand here in my blog (and others), I’m sure that Perfect World is well on its way to becoming another hit.

Eversince I posted the initial impressions of the game, I’ve been getting a lot of questions about how to get Gold… (for use in the Item Shop)

That info after the jump!
